Corsicana — A listing of meetings and events of interest from throughout Navarro County

The Corsicana Art League will hold an exhibit at the Warehouse Living Arts Theatre Gallery.

Feb. 25

The newly organized Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. Third Street (one block West of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the sweet treats and wear your best smile.  We will soon be approving by-laws and electing officers and committees so your leadership skills will be needed.  Come and join the Party! The group’s main purpose is to discuss and protect issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available and earned by Senior Citizens and Veterans.

The Emhouse Community Center will hold its potluck meeting at 6 p.m. Please come and support the local community center.

Corsicana Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will be at the Corsicana YMCA from 2 to 7 p.m. If you are low income (usually under $42K) or elderly, and in need of tax filing assistance, take advantage of this free program. This year VITA will see clients with appointments first and then work with walk-ins. VITA is at the YMCA on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at the Kerens Library on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Call George Burrell at (903) 879-2091 to schedule your appointment.

When Are We Going Home Ministry will hold Spirit Sent Music Ministry at New Beginnings Family Fellowship in Blooming Grove at 6 p.m. All events are free and open to children with medical challenges, disabilities and special needs and their immediate siblings. www.whenarewegoinghome.com.

Navarro County Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets at 6 p.m. each Tuesday, in the fellowship hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 101 N. 14th St., Corsicana.  All are welcome to learn to give and receive support at the weekly meetings. On the first Tuesday of the month, Dr. Tom Sheriff, licensed psychologist, joins the group discussions on various aspects of mental health.     Statewide, sales taxes are up almost 4 percent compared to a year ago. Navarro County is surpassing the state on average for the year-to-date collections. Navarro County’s sales taxes are up 5.3 percent for the year thus far, while the state averages are up 5.2 percent.
