Police seek help with abandoned infant

Corsicana —

At approximately 8:53 pm on Sunday, October 28, 2012, the Corsicana Police Department’s Dispatch Center received information from a resident in the 500 block of North 38th Street that an alive, newborn male wrapped in a towel incased in a pillowcase inside a handbag had been left by the door under a carport of a residence at that location. Corsicana police officers and EMS personnel responded and discovered the newborn still had its umbilical cord attached. The male newborn, described as Hispanic or white, was transported by EMS personnel to the Navarro Regional Hospital for evaluation and treatment. The newborn was admitted to the hospital for observation and Child Protective Services personnel were notified.

Corsicana Police Department personnel notified law enforcement agencies and hospitals in the region of the abandoned baby in case they encountered a female that appeared to have recently given birth and possibly needed medical attention, but did not have a baby or explain where the baby was.  Corsicana Independent School District officials were also notified.

Det. Greg Cloud has been assigned to conduct the follow-up investigation.  Anyone with information that may help identify the mother of the newborn is strongly encouraged to contact the Corsicana Police Department at 903-654-4902 or Det. Cloud at 903-654-4914.
