Corsicana — Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 9 a.m. at the Angel Room located at 1020 N. Bus. 45. We welcome all ages to come pack. Richland's First Semi-Annual Craft and Vendor Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richland Civic Center, 103 W. Main St.  Arts, crafts, crochet hats and items, digital postcards, VHS to DVD, health and wellness products, baked goods, bling, hairbows, jewelry, monogrammed bags, totes and purses, Velata fondue and Scentsy products. The Navarro College Adult Education Program offers free ESL and GED Classes in Ellis County.  Interested students under 18 years old need to contact the Navarro College Adult Education office at (903) 875-7464.  Interested students 18 years old or older need to attend the registration workshop on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Navarro College-Mexia, Room 101 or Saturday, Oct. 13, at Navarro College-Corsicana, Bain Center Room 400.  Workshop will start promptly at 10 a.m.  For more information please contact the Navarro College Adult Education Program at (903) 875-7464 or 1-800-NAVARRO ext. 7464

Barry-Emhouse Lord’s Acre will be held at the Fannie Mae Vernon Room at the Exposition Center starting with the Country Store and a Sweet Shop at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. and will consist of turkey and dressing with all the trimmings, and homemade pies.

“Fool’s Paradise” a Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce casino night Jimmy Buffet style will take place from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Corsicana Country Club. Admission is $45. The raffle prize is an iPad. For more information, call (903) 874-4731.

St. Elmo Cemetery Association (in Winkler, St. Elmo) will hold its annual hot dog sale and auction at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of New Hope Baptist Church.   • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.

    An attempt to bootleg electricity off a pole using jumper cables is believed to have caused a building fire that took out a former restaurant in Angus Friday morning, one of a series of calls to Navarro County Sheriff’s Office to the southern end of the county over the weekend.
