From Staff Reports
Corsicana Daily Sun

Corsicana — It’s the biggest show in town, and doors open at 1 p.m. today for the 2012 Taste of Home Cooking School.

A favorite of homemakers and food lovers across the country, Chef Jamie Dunn will present a delicious variety of recipes and holiday meal ideas during a fast-paced show on stage at the Corsicana High School Auditorium.

And, for those who attend, there’s the chance to win a variety of door prizes and giveaways at the event, plus a chance to browse through vendor booths set up in the High School Commons before the show.

The Taste of Home Cooking School is sponsored by the Corsicana Daily Sun, the American Business Women’s Association, and Navarro Regional’s Healthy Woman program. Participating sponsors also include HEB Food Store, Gibson’s Home Center, Miles Furniture, Collin Street Bakery, and McKee Lumber.

Doors open at 1 p.m., where attendees can browse through sponsor booths from vendors including HEB, Harvie’s, Saladmaster, Ambit Energy, Cook Center, Rada Cutlery, Advocare, A Trinity Home Health, Rice Mercantile, Curves, Scentsy, Kerens Cotton Harvest Festival, Stewart Insurance, Shanda Vance, Heritage Oaks Retirement Village, Thyme & Elegance, 31 Gifts, Avon, Scrappin' Good Times, Juice Plus+, Shall We Dance, Cassady’s, Downtown Salon & Spa, Shelf Reliant, Collin Street Bakery, Guardian Healthcare, Navarro County Republican Women, and the Corsicana Daily Sun/Explore Magazine. There is no admission charge to visit the vendor booths from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Jamie Dunn will take the stage in the CHS Auditorium at 4:30 p.m. to begin the Taste of Home show on stage. Tickets for the show are $12 for general admission, $20 for reserved seats, and a special VIP ticket for $35 that includes admission to the show and a “meet and greet” with Dunn prior to the show.

Dunn became interested in cooking thanks to her father, who involved her and her siblings in the kitchen from an early age. She started by helping cook dinner and even hand-pulling homemade taffy. Jamie later acquired her Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Home Economics Education and Community Service from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Jamie previously worked as a culinary instructor for Tulsa Technology and Bama Cooking School, and returned to her roots as a high school Home Economics teacher. She remains a Southern girl, and enjoys country music and good old-fashioned Southern BBQ.

When she’s not working with Taste of Home Cooking School, Jamie continues to inject her passion for cooking into her everyday life. She enjoys cooking for family and friends, gardening, and canning fresh fruits and vegetables for her favorite soups and desserts. She loves getting people to try new things, so don’t be afraid to sample one of her delicious offerings.

Taste of Home Cookbooks will available at the Daily Sun/Explore booth, along with $1 raffle tickets for a chance to sit on stage "Best Seat in the House" — on stage during the Taste of Home show. All proceeds will benefit the Good News Café, a ministry of First Baptist Church, who provide a hot meal at no charge every Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those in need.

Additionally, ABWA will be hosting a food drive for the Navarro County Food Pantry. Make donations of non-perishable food items or a $5 cash donation and receive a raffle ticket for a drawing for a $100 gas/gift certificate from HEB, Wal-Mart and Brookshires. The drawing will be held during the Taste of Home Cooking School show.

National sponsors for the event include C&H/Domino Sugar, Saladmaster, Mrs. Dash, Pork-be inspired, Johnsonville Italian, Eggland’s Best Eggs, and Shop Taste of Home.

Tickets for the show will be available at the door at Corsicana High School today.
