Aggies at the ready for steak cookoff

Corsicana — A rib-eye steak cook-off competition and dinner will take place starting at 5 p.m. Saturday at the I.O.O.F. Administration Building, 3440 W. Second Ave. in Corsicana.

This is the second annual steak cook-off hosted by the Navarro County A&M Club. Four teams will cook about 15 or so steaks each, with one to be judged and the rest fed to the public. A steak dinner costs $15, and includes the meat, baked potato, salad and beans. Tea and water will be available, with BYOB.

The steaks came from Third Avenue Meat Market.

“It’s to raise money for Texas A&M Scholarships,” explained Paul Tannehill, class of 1970. Last year, the club gave out five college scholarships to Navarro County high school students heading off to Texas A&M University.

In addition to the competition, there will be some dominoes, and they’ll have the Texas A&M versus Arkansas game on the television, Tannehill said.

The group has been raising money for scholarships for bout the last 20 year. In the past, they’ve had fajita-cooking competitions, but this is only the second steak cook-off.
