UPDATE: Tarius Manuere sentenced to 25 years in child sex assault

Corsicana — A Navarro County jury sentenced Tarius Manuere to 25 years in prison Friday, after finding him guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child following a week long trial at the Navarro County Courthouse.

The jury deliberated about four hours Friday before finding Tarius Manuere guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Manuere was charged with continuous sexual assault of a child. The jury returned a guilty verdict on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and not guilty verdicts on the charge of continuous sexual assault of a child and a related aggravated sexual assault of a child charge.

“I’m proud of the effort put in by the office,” said Navarro County District Attorney R. Lowell Thompson following the sentencing. “I’m proud of the jury. They sent a message that Mr. Manuere is a child predator, and they rewarded the bravery of the victim that came forward.”

A phone message left with Manuere’s defense attorney was not returned Friday night.

Tarius Manuere and his brother, Noah, were both arrested in Hawaii in March after fleeing Navarro County on sexual assault charges. The two were indicted by a Navarro County Grand Jury in April 2013 on charges of continued sexual assault of a child.

Tarius Manuere must serve at least 12 1/2 years of the 25 year sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

A trial date for Noah Manuere has not yet been set.
