The American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will host Karaoke Night with Country Sue from 8 p.m. to midnight. For further information call 903-874-3936 after 2 p.m.

The Corsicana Newcomer's Club will hold it's annual fundraising event at 6 p.m. at the Corsicana Country Club. The public is invited to come to this year's Blue Jeans, Boots & Bids auction, dinner and dance featuring music by Byron Haynie. A live and silent auction will be held. Proceeds raised from this event go to support local community non-profit organizations. Tickets are $25 per person. VFW Post 3366 will have a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight in the ballroom side of the VFW Post 3366 off of W. Hwy 31. Randy Blue and The Full House Band will be the entertainment for the evening. There will be a $5 cover charge at the door.

Barry Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Barbecue Fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Barry VFD, 105 W. South Front St. Brisket, sausage, chicken, beans, potato salad, tea and desserts will go for $8 for adults, and $4 for children. There will be a live auction featuring many items starting at 6 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the building fund. For more information contact Mike Ball at 903-654-0901.

Corsicana Chatanooga Glass Plant Reunion will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 beginning at 3 p.m. at Mildred Baptist Church gym, 5502 S. Hwy 287, across from Mildred Schools. The fellowship will begin at 3 p.m. followed by a barbecue dinner at 5:30 p.m. for $10 per plate. Auction and doorprizes will follow. This reunion is for all employees, spouses, widows, and widowers from 1956 until closing of the plant. For more information contact Herman Marr at (903) 229-2190 or Richard Rash at (903) 874-3900.

    Lacy Rose Goodrich, 9, is a typical Bowie fourth-grader. She likes to watch “Full House,” reruns and “iCarly,” and she has a dog and a cat. She takes gymnastics and dance lessons, and has attended four different Vacation Bible Schools this summer, as well as all the parks and recreation summer programs for kids.
    What’s unusual about Lacy is that she also raised nearly $500 for the food pantry since Easter, which is the equivalent of 3,450 pounds of food for hungry Navarro County residents.

    Water rates, sewer rates and trash rates will all go up for Corsicana city residents, according to preliminary budget figures presented to the city council Thursday afternoon.

  • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.

    An attempt to bootleg electricity off a pole using jumper cables is believed to have caused a building fire that took out a former restaurant in Angus Friday morning, one of a series of calls to Navarro County Sheriff’s Office to the southern end of the county over the weekend.
