Oakwood Odyssey, presented by the Navarro County Genealogical Society and Liz Gillespie Genealogy Department, is a walking tour of a section of the old historic Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana. You will be guided by volunteers who will lead you down the path to meet past residents of our city who left their mark on our town, county and state. Tickets are $10 each. Call (903) 654-4808 to get your tour booked now. First come first serve. Tours will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the last tour starting at 8:30 p.m. Wear walking shoes for comfort.

The City of Richland will hold an election on Saturday, May 10 at the Civic Center, 103 W. Main, Richland from 7 a.m. To 7 p.m. To elect a Mayor and two council members. Early voting will take place April 28 and May 5 from 7 a.m. To 7 p.m., and April 29 through May 2 from 9 a.m. To 2 p.m.

Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 9 a.m. At 1020 Bus. 45 to pack gift boxes for our local troops. All ages are welcome to come pack. If anyone knows someone serving in harm's way, please bring their address to the packing so we can send a gift box. Please attend and for more information contact Jean O'Connor at (903) 851-2560.

Kerens Ex Students Association invites you to Celebrate Mother's Day with lunch from 11 a.m. To 1 p.m. at the KESA building in downtown Kerens.  Meals are $9 for adults and $4 for children under 12.  Proceeds will benefit KESA scholarships.

 The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m.   The general public is invited to attend.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.  For further information, please call 903-872-5072.

 Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975 or in any duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

  • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.

    An attempt to bootleg electricity off a pole using jumper cables is believed to have caused a building fire that took out a former restaurant in Angus Friday morning, one of a series of calls to Navarro County Sheriff’s Office to the southern end of the county over the weekend.
