Groups observe Day of Prayer event

Corsicana — Under the sheltering arms of shade trees on the historic Navarro County courthouse lawn, dozens of people gathered to pray Thursday, local contributions to the National Day of Prayer.

“I prayed for the leadership in the city and the county and all the churches and their leadership,” said Sandy Lewis, a member of the First Baptist Church. “I get a blessing out of it by hearing the people, and getting a chance to thank the Lord for his gifts for us.”

Kathy Huffman prayed for our men and women in the military.

“My son’s deployed. He’s a JAG in the Middle East,” she said. “That’s special to me.”

This was the second year for Martha and Frank Means Sr., to attend the Day of Prayer.

Martha prayed for more Christians to be elected to public office. Frank prayed for those already in office.

“I prayed specifically for our president,” he said.

It’s a pleasure to get outside, to spend time with others of a like faith, and to fill your heart and mind with prayer, participants said. It helped that this year’s Day of Prayer was on a beautiful day, not too windy, cold or hot.

“I prayed for the federal government and the local government, and the churches,” said Joanna Lewis. “I did it last year, too. I enjoyed it.”
