Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice sponsors a Healing Through Grief support group that meets for lunch the second Wednesday of each quarter. The Nineteenth Century Club, with Seley Fuller as director, will present “Musical Memories.” This is a delightful program given by Becky Davis Turner and her crew performing The Music of the Titanic. The luncheon will have food and music that would have been enjoyed by those aboard the HMS Titanic. This group will have attendees tapping their toes to the wonderful music of the Gilded Age. The Warehouse Living Arts Center will present MAMA WON’T FLY opening on Thursday, Sept. 12. The mad-cap, family-friendly comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten involves an outrageous race against the clock when Savannah (Darlene Pleiner) agrees to get her feisty mother (Norma Russell) all the way from Alabama to California in time for her brother’s wedding to Hayley (Annot Walthall). Savannah’s problem: Mama won’t fly! The cast, led by Russell, Pleiner and Walthall also features a large cast of talented supporting actors including: Debbie Bigler, Sharon Goodman, Debbie Hanks, Irvin Horn, Randy Jones, Sandra McClure Mahood, Ron Motley, Kevin Painter, Grace Sowell and Adam Walthall. MAMA WON'T FLY opens Sept. 12 with a performance at 7:30 p.m., followed by the opening night gala.   • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.

    An attempt to bootleg electricity off a pole using jumper cables is believed to have caused a building fire that took out a former restaurant in Angus Friday morning, one of a series of calls to Navarro County Sheriff’s Office to the southern end of the county over the weekend.
