KERENS — FedEx, Dickies and the State Fair of Texas are sponsoring the beloved State Fair of Texas icon 'Big Tex' as he 'walks across Texas' on his way to the State Fair in Dallas that opens Sept. 27. Big Tex's bootprints appeared in downtown Kerens Thursday as he makes his way across the Lone Star State. Kerens is the 'birthplace' of Big Tex. The figure was originally a huge Santa Claus constructed to help draw business to Kerens during the Christmas season. The ‘new’ Big Tex will be unveiled at the fair this year after a fire destroyed the display on the last weekend of the 2012 State Fair.
