Mayor of Corsicana
The City of Corsicana has received two very important recognitions recently. First, the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) announced the recipients of its annual Community Economic Development Awards (CEDA) for 2013.
The Community Economic Development Awards program recognizes exceptional contributions of TEDC member cities toward the economic vitality of their communities and the state of Texas through creativity, leadership, and partnership in the achievement of business retention, business recruitment and community improvement. Corsicana received this award for the community effort dedicated to the closing of the Pactiv, LLC expansion project.
Corsicana was in competition with seven other cities in Category III, cities with populations of 15,001 to 40,000. These cities were Alice, Big Spring, Copperas Cove, Corsicana, Little Elm, Orange, Sulphur Springs, and Schertz.
Lorie Vincent of Stratford, 2013 TEDC Chair, states that "Each community nominated achieved excellence in economic development and substantially improved the economic base of their respective regions. The recipient communities in each population category were recognized for extraordinary accomplishments in meeting the criteria set forth in the nomination process."
The awards will be presented at a special awards breakfast held Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the TEDC's Annual Conference at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio. John McClung, Ruby Williams, Connie Standridge, Harold Housley, Reggie Goldsmith and I will travel to San Antonio to accept the award.
The second recognition is that the "Create History Here" marketing program has been named as a finalist in the Best Marketing Program category of the 2013 Texas Downtown Association President's Award Program. Since 1998, this program recognizes projects, events, and people that make a difference in Texas downtowns.
Winners will be announced Nov. 7, 2013, at the President's Gala in Bastrop.
