First Independent Baptist Church will celebrate its 145th Church Anniversary Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 with an 11 a.m. service in which Rev. Marvin Jones, executive assistant pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Waco, where Rev. Delvin Atchison is pastor, will deliver the message. At 3:30 p.m. Bishop Cedric Beard and the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas will be the special guest for the afternoon service. The public is invited to share in this special day with the First Independent Baptist Church congregation.
Petty’s Chapel Baptist Church and Pastor Elvin Sikes would like to announce an added service time for Worship beginning Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. We would like to remind everyone of our Sunday morning worship schedule: Our first Worship service begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m. Our second Worship service will begin at 11 a.m. We meet on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. for worship and youth activities. We are beginning a series titled “Exploring the Bible.” Pettys Chapel Baptist Church will present The Texas Gospel Jamboree on Saturday, Nov. 2. Brought to you in the tradition of the Grand Ole Gospel Opry, doors will open at 5 p.m. and show will begin at 6 p.m. Mercy Song, made up of Larry Green, Les Pratt, Tonya Eakins and Jeff McFarland, is known as one of the best quartets in the country. They will be joined by Marvin Stewart Jr., Beverly Kay Crocker, and Master of Ceremonies Royel Clark. Admission is free, though there will be a love offering. Second Mission Baptist Church located at 909 South Fifth Street, Corsicana, is hosting a Harvest Day Event on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be hayrides for the young and young at heart, free clothing giveaway and shoes for children and adults, food, fun, and fellowship for all. We invite everyone to come out and join us in the festivities.

Wesley United Methodist Church, 3308 N. Beaton St., will host a Trunk or Treat Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013. Children will go car to car collecting treats from church members. This year we are adding games and a concession stand. Games are free and there will be a charge for food and drink. Come join the fun. The Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 2105 East Jones Avenue, is celebrating its 101st Church Homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013. First Baptist Church of Eureka is hosting its annual Fall Festival on Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be many carnival-style activities for children of all ages, ranging from a duck pond, basketball toss, horse shoe toss, ring toss, waterless apple bobbing, pumpkin toss, and more. Children are welcome to trick or treat and play the games as many times as they like. We will be serving a hot dog dinner with chips and a drink for $3 each (funds raised go towards our children's camp fund). Come out and enjoy a safe fun filled family evening. FBCE's Women's Ministry will be hosting a Chili Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost will be by donation. Funds raised will go towards our Women of God Conference to be held on May 3, 2014. On this date we will also be drawing for the winner of our monthly drawing. Hubbard Methodist Church will hold its 35th Annual Lord’s Acre on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Hubbard First United Methodist Church, 208 NW Second St. Activities will be begin at 9 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. Many handmade gift items, baked goods of all kinds, jellies, etc. will be available for purchase at the Country Store until 12:30 p.m. Visitors may enjoyed a sandwich lunch as they preview the many beautiful quilts and other items that will be featured in the auction that begins at 2 p.m. At the conclusion of the auction, a turkey and dressing meal with all the trimmings will be served in the Haralson Family Life Center which is adjacent to the Church. Keynote speaker Jim Caulder is a Social Security expert, having been employed by the Social Security Administration for over 33 years. He is known for his witty and entertaining presentations that explain complex Social Security laws in a way that is easily understood by all. This workshop will cover what your full retirement age is and how your benefit is determined; how to maximize your benefits and avoid costly mistakes; how retiring earlier than, or later than, your full retirement age will affect your benefits.
