Corsicana — The Navarro County Commissioners Court has called for a $7.5 million bond election on Nov. 5 to fund its share of the proposed restoration of the Navarro County Courthouse, and buy or purchase an annex building.
Commissioners had previously been considering a $6.4 million bond issue, but decided on $7.5 million to allow for additional flexibility in establishing the annex building — either the purchase, renovation and repair of the Corsicana Independent School District's administration building and annex, or the construction of a new facility on county-owned property near the courthouse.
The annex building would be needed should the county proceed with the restoration project, as all existing county offices would not be able to return to the courthouse after the restoration.
A $4.4 million state grant, and a $1 million grant from the Navarro Community Foundation are available to the county for the project as well, should the bond issue be approved by voters.
We'll post more on Monday's commissioners court meeting later today and in the Tuesday print edition of the Daily Sun.
