Second Saturday offers music, wine tasting

Corsicana — The Second Saturday event in downtown Corsicana will feature “3 Fools on 3 Stools” made up of veteran musicians Doc Wesson, Jim Richmond and Curtis Tilton. The trio will perform an eclectic mix of classic favorites, original works and funny songs, blending stellar vocal harmonies with acoustic accompaniment, beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the Pocket Park, located at 118 N. Beaton St.

The entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. with the local band Curlyhead, made up of Joe Doyen and Tom Scott. Among the duo’s influences are Jimmy Buffett, the Marshall Tucker Band, Stevie Ray Vaughn and alternative rock band Artificial Intelligence.

Besides relaxing acoustic music, a wine walk hosted by several downtown businesses, two art shows and a water slide will be offered.

Downtown Corsicana’s retail stores will be open all afternoon, and a number of establishments will remain open until 7 p.m. and will offer wine tastings (for those 21 and older), in-store promotions and more, beginning at 4 p.m. These include Bittersweet Boutique (112 N. Beaton), Canterbury Court/Couture (309 N. Beaton), Grave Creek Mercantile (114 N. Beaton), Harvie’s (112 E. 5th Ave), Luci Blu (318 N. Beaton), Merchant’s Antiques (320 N. Beaton), Turquoise Pistol (101 S. Beaton) and the Vintage Farmhouse (103 S. Beaton).

Two art galleries will feature local artists, also beginning at 4 p.m. The Warehouse Living Arts Center Gallery presents “With Six, You Get Eggrolls,” featuring works by local artists Helen Albritton, Gladys Espenson, Stephanie Ford, Barbara Jones, Deb Miller and Margie Taylor. The exhibit is a compilation of these artists award-winning styles, including still life, landscape and figurative painting, western scratch-board art and stained glass works.

On display at The Gallery at Downtown Salon & Spa, 115 W. Collin St., are works by over 20 area artists, including nationally acclaimed figurative artist Chuck Miller. The Gallery offers a wide array of attractive, vibrant and affordable art.

An 18-foot water slide for the younger crowd will start at 4 p.m. on 5th Avenue, between Beaton & Main streets.

“The shade in Pocket Park, along with the respite offered inside our participating businesses and galleries, should make for a comfortable evening,” said Wrenda Freeman, program assistant at Corsicana Main Street, who organized the activities.

Freeman added that six downtown restaurants will be open for dinner during the event. Other live music offered downtown Saturday includes The Big “C” Jamboree at Martin’s Music Hall (201 S. Beaton) and AC/DC tribute band “Back in Black” at the Remington (122 W. 3rd Ave.).
