Corsicana — NARFE

Ellis County Sheriff Johnny Brown spoke to the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Chap. 1191, at their monthly meeting at Ryan's Buffet on Tuesday, July 8. Brown highlighted the fact that crime in Ellis County is down 14 percent this year. He also noted that more patrols are being done with less staff. Dealing with horses and mules that have been turned loose is presenting a special problem.

The Ellis County Sheriff's Department has an annual budget in excess of $7 million plus almost an additional $8 million for the jail. Loss of jail staff is presenting new challenges to maintain the 380 – 400 average daily inmates. There was a good question and answer session after the Sheriff's presentation.

NARFE Chap. 1191 covers Ellis, Navarro and the adjacent parts of the surrounding counties.
