Corsicana — Corsicana Noon Lions Club

The Corsicana Noon Lions Club’s 2012-2013 essay against drugs contest was recently conducted for area sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. The topic was “Should Performance Enhancing Drugs be Allowed in Sports?”

First place was won by Caroline Biltz, eighth grader at Collins Catholic School; second place, Calie Bwicheilug, eighth grader at Collins Catholic School; third place, Samuel Guffey, sixth grader at Drane Intermediate School. The best seventh-grade essay was by Jada Woolley at Collins Catholic School. Prizes were $25 for first, $20 for second, $15 for third, and the best essay in each grade won $10.

Caroline Biltz’s essay will be entered in the Lions District 2-x3 contest to be judged at the midwinter conference.

Judges for the local contest were former teachers, now retired, Theresa Shugart, Sharon McDonald, and Genetha Thomas.



Kinsloe House

The Constitution and By-Laws committee, headed by Suzanne Smith, will present its program at noon on January 16 at the Kinsloe House. The membership committee members are Arlene Stewart, Hanna McCleary, Joan Summitt, Rita Edens, and Charlotte Van Buskirk.

The musical program will be presented by a talented group of women called “GRACE.” These women have been singing together for 12 years. The members of the quartette are Sherri Bruce, Luann Lamb, Gayla Gober, and Madelyn Tyler. They perform throughout Navarro County and are a true crowd pleaser.
