By Chuck McClanahan
Mayor of Corsicana
I am pleased to announce the formation of a new and innovative Grow Corsicana Task Force.
The purpose of the group will be to enhance the economic development of Corsicana and the immediate area. The Grow Corsicana Task Force will focus on continuing to move Corsicana forward by aggressively pursuing businesses and industries to Corsicana. Corsicana has a great story to tell, but not enough people have heard the message. The Grow Corsicana Task Force will be composed of people who share a great love of their hometown, understand the unique experience Corsicana offers, and are well connected state wide, nationally and globally.
The primary goals for the Grow Corsicana Task Force include:
• Formation of a comprehensive action plan with public input system from all citizens to collect business leads and identify prospects.
• Pinpoint and attempt to resolve the challenges with business and industrial growth.
• Reach out to foreign companies that are seeking relocation or expansion into the United States.
• Effectively market Corsicana both internally and externally.
• Promote industry and business collaboration with Navarro College and Corsicana High School.
• Utilize all available resources from both state and federal government.
• Recruit and attract companies and residents from states with high taxes and burdensome regulations to expand or relocate to Corsicana.
Bill McNutt will serve as the Chair of the Grow Corsicana Task Force. Mr. McNutt served in the White House Administration for both President Ronald Reagan and President George H.W. Bush. McNutt has effectively led more than 50 United States Trade Missions abroad. He is a co-owner of the Collin Street Bakery, Tradesman Truck Accessories of Winters, Texas, and GFRC Cladding Construction of Garland, Texas. McNutt is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and earned a Masters of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University.
Steve Wolens has agreed to be Vice-Chairman. Steve graduated from Corsicana High School, Stanford University and Southern Methodist University Law School. He is an attorney in Dallas and has served as a State Legislator. His family has a long history in Corsicana owning the family store K Wolens, which operated for many years in the downtown area.
One of the unique outreach efforts of the Grow Corsicana Task Force will be the "Who Do You Know" campaign. This branch of the Task Force will collaborate with civic clubs, churches, and other organizations to encourage current and former Corsicana citizens to identify leads, prospects, contacts, friends, relatives, and acquaintances who can open doors to help Grow Corsicana by successfully recruiting new business, industry, and events.
"We want to promote all elements of the economy," said McNutt, a 1973 graduate of Corsicana High School. "Mayor Chuck McClanahan and Economic Development Director Lee McCleary have created recent successes and developed positive momentum. The Grow Corsicana Task Force, with the leads generated by people who care about Corsicana, will accelerate this effort."
Lee has the opinion that since the 1800’s, the continuing success of industries here substantiates that Corsicana is the preferred strategic location for business expansions and relocations. Corsicana is ideally positioned between Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston at the intersection of Interstate 45 and US Highway 287. Additionally, the city has dual rail service provided by both the Union Pacific and BNSF that extends to the Port of Houston Authority and to the Port of Beaumont.
I am excited about the potential of this effort to create new opportunities in economic development. Please join me in assisting the City of Corsicana if you have a prospective “Who Do You Know” contact. Please email me with any suggestions you may have at firstname.lastname@example.org.
