Corsicana — A listing of meetings and events of interest throughout Navarro County

Feb. 8

Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle “Pot Luck” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the hospital classrooms. Bring a covered dish of your choice and join in on the fun. A representative from ADT Home Health Security will speak about the services they offer.  There will be Bingo after the meal. For more information and to register, call (903) 654-6892.

The Navarro County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 9:45 a.m. at Northwest Apartments Community Center, 1360 Northwest Ave. Herbert O’Neal, Corsicana High School Principal, will be the speaker. All retired school employees are invited to attend.

Feb. 9

Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will be holding an Angel Packing at 9 a.m. in the Angel Room at 1020 North Business 45. All ages are welcome. Please bring the name of a military member serving in harm’s way with you to the packing so we can do a gift box for our military members. These will be the Valentine’s boxes. Big C Jamboree will be at 7 p.m. at Martin’s Music Hall, 201 S. Beaton, with special guests Jenny Burnett and Lou Rochelle. House band featuring Zanada Schoppert, Chuck Wiginton, Ron Sikes, Joe Honea, Jody Thomas and Bobby Fluker, emcee, are joined by regular performers Fred Hayes, Billy Roy Mitcham and Stan Lawhon. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets $10 per person. For more information call (903) 641-1538.

The American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will host a Valentine Party beginning at 7 p.m. Enjoy Karaoke with Country Sue from 8:30 p.m. to 12 midnight. Free admission. Get your friends together, bring your Valentine sweetheart, and enjoy the festivities of the evening. If you have any questions, call (903) 874-3938 after 2 p.m.

The Coyote Squadron, the Corsicana unit of the Commemorative Air Force, will have its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. The meeting will be held at the N.H. “Tucker” Hardgrave Memorial Hangar at the Corsicana, Texas Municipal Airport. - Lunch will be served.

  • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.

    An attempt to bootleg electricity off a pole using jumper cables is believed to have caused a building fire that took out a former restaurant in Angus Friday morning, one of a series of calls to Navarro County Sheriff’s Office to the southern end of the county over the weekend.

    Hats out of old newspaper and leftover wrapping paper, simple robots out of popsicle sticks, rubber bands and pencil erasers, a microcosm of the aquifer made of root beer and ice cream — with a dollop of chocolate syrup. These were among the fun science projects at Tuesday’s 4-H Discovery Days event at the Navarro County Youth Expo.
