Collin Street Bakery hosting second annual show

Corsicana — Ready, set, go.

The second installment of the Collin Street Bakery’s Art Contest is underway. More than 400 pieces of work from Corsicana students are hanging at the Interstate 45 location, and will be on display through Nov. 28.

On Nov. 29, someone’s going home with some nice cash.

“We just want to do something for children and spotlight their talent,” said Christi Driskell, event coordinator for the bakery.

Last year the entries totaled more than 400 as then-16-year-old Adrian Miranda took top honors. Elizabeth Fitzhugh, a fourth grader at Sam Houston Elementary last year, won the People’s Choice award

This year there will be four categories based on grades: second and third graders, fourth and fifth graders, sixth through eighth graders, and high school (ninth through 12th). The top three winners in each category will receive cash prizes and gift certificates, and all participants will receive ribbons.

The People’s Choice winner will receive $250 cash.

“Then we’ll have the grand prize winner chosen by (Collin Street Bakery President) Bob (McNutt),” Driskell said.

The grand prize winner will also receive $500 cash.
