Corsicana Cleaners annual coat drive underway

Corsicana — They’ve been doing it for years, just as regular as cold weather and fruitcake season in Corsicana.

Corsicana Cleaners and Laundry has again launched its annual winter coat drive, a way to provide warm winter clothing for those in need. And with the cooler weather on the way this month and next, the need for the clothing is now.

Dating back to the early 1990s, Corsicana Cleaners has received “gently used” coats donated by the public, professionally cleaned them, then donated the coats to Family Service Association, where they are given to people in dire need of a warm coat.

“It began as a way of getting coats for kids,” said Jim Acker, “but over the years, it has included adults coats, as well.”

Acker asked that residents check their closets and storage bins for “gently used” coats, sweaters and other cold weather garments that can be cleaned and recycled for use by the less fortunate. When dropped off at the business on North Main Street, the staff will take care of the rest, from cleaning through delivering to Family Services.

Donations may be dropped off at Corsicana Cleaners, located at 215 N. Main Street.
