Texas jobless rate for June steady
AUSTIN — The statewide unemployment rate for June held steady at 5.1 percent, the Texas Workforce Commission reported Friday.

Texas pair stole more than 50K pieces of mail
WACO — Two people have pleaded guilty to targeting dozens of U.S. post offices across Texas and stealing more than 50,000 pieces of mail. Federal prosecutors in Waco say the couple from Temple robbed post offices, collection boxes and parcel lockers in more than 80 communities, from Midland to College Station and from Dallas to San Antonio.

The Navarro County grand jury handed down indictments Thursday in connection with recent drug arrests and a “drive-by” shooting incident. The panel — seated for a three-month term on Thursday — issued a total of 48 indictments against 38 individuals

WASHINGTON — American intelligence authorities believe a surface-to-air missile took down a passenger jet in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, a U.S. official said, but the Obama administration was still scrambling to confirm who launched the strike and whether there were American citizens killed in the crash.
