June 14

Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will be holding its monthly troop packing at 9 a.m. at 1020 North Business 45. Please bring any military addresses of those serving in harm’s way to the packing. They will be packing a special gift of chocolate chip cookies from Whataburger. For more information call Jean O’Connor at 903-851-2560.



Navarro County Genealogical Society will hold its quarterly meeting at 10 a.m. in the Nancy Roberts Community Meeting Room at the Corsicana Public Library. Ed Williams will be speaking on “Collecting Corsicana.” The public is invited to attend. There is no charge.

 

Emhouse 4-H Fundraiser will be a vet clinic held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Emhouse Community Center. Please bring your dogs, cats, and horses to this fundraiser for Emhouse 4-H. Prices are very reasonable. For more information call (903) 354-6775.



Providence Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 11 a.m. with a covered dish picnic lunch and business meeting. Guest speaker will be Glenn Benefield. If you are unable to attend, mail contributions to Providence Cemetery Association, 2000 FM 637, Corsicana, TX 75109.



The American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will host Karaoke Night with Country Sue from 8 p.m. to midnight. For further information call 903-874-3938 after 2 p.m.



Cars of Navarro County will hold a Car Show at Seventh and Beaton, in conjunction with the City of Corsicana’s Second Saturday event. Registration will be from 5 to 6 p.m. and proceeds will go to the Navarro County Food Pantry. Many trophies will be awarded, if you have a car, bike, truck, hot rod, muscle car, project car, whatever, bring it and show it off.



The City of Corsicana continues its Second Saturday Series in downtown Corsicana. From 5 to 8 p.m. T-Bone Stearns and Jughead will  perform in Pocket Park, 118 N. Beaton Street. Bring your lawn chairs and come join us for a great time. There will also be live entertainment featured at The Remington and Corsicana Opry as well. A monthly Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. here at Sterling House. This is free to the community, refreshments will be served. Please feel free to invite family and friends.



June 19

  The GW Jackson Multi-Cultural Society will be hosting a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., selling turkey legs, sausage on a stick, homemade ice cream and other deserts. The fundraiser ‘Cooking for a Cause” will be on the G.W. Jackson Property at 709 MLK Boulevard (at East Fifth Street) in Corsicana. Funds will be used to upgrade and maintain the beauty of the grounds.



The Juneteenth Celebration will be held at the site of the G.W. Jackson Multicultural Center, corner of G.W. Jackson and Fifth Street.



June 20

Miss Juneteenth Pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Drane Intermediate School auditorium.



June 21

Jackson Ex-Students Annual Juneteenth parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Brookshire’s parking lot on Main Street.



When Are We Going Home Ministry has chosen to have its Champion’s Day at Hawaiian Falls in Mansfield. On this day, families with special needs children may get in the park with the child free and $5 for the other person. When Are We Going Home Ministry will have a pavilion rented for its families at Hawaiian Falls. The fun begins at 8:30 a.m. For more information, call (903) 422-6120.



Beck Animal Hospital and Mildred Eagle Cheerleaders will sponsor a Low Cost Vaccination Clinic at MISD on June 21 from 9 a.m. to noon.



Dawson Volunteer Fire Department, 97 N. Main St., invites you to a Barbecue dinner and fundraising auction at 5 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Corsicana Newcomers’ Club annual summer social will find you enjoying the rustle of grass skirts to the sounds of ukelele music and soft island breezes as we turn Kinsloe House into a Hawaiian Luau. June 27

A Senior Sock Hop will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Cook Center. This is a free event for any seniors 50 and up and a chaperone. Corsicana Swing Orchestra will play hits from the 50s and 60s. There will be refreshments and a costume contest, so break out the leather jackets and poodle skirts. There will be door prizes, also. You must have a ticket since seating is limited. June 28

Pickett Riding Club is ready to ride at the Streetman arena on FM 416. Show starts at 11 a.m. Events are Cloverleaf Barrels, Straightaway Barrels, Poles, Speed, Flag, Potato and Keyhole. Exhibitions are $3, events are $5, and there is a $25 membership per family if you would like to join Pickett Riding Club. Age groups will be 6 and under, 7-9, 10-12, 13-17, and 18 and over. The AARP Driver’s Safety Course for drivers over 50 years young will be hosted by the Young at Heart Group in Dawson at the First Baptist Church’s Activity Center at Main and Fourth Streets. This is a  four-hour course of instruction which runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The course is designed to make people with a lot of experience safer drivers and less accident prone as they age. June 30

Oak Valley Crime Watch will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Americana is our theme so throw on your red, white, and blue. Crime Watch is providing smoked brisket and sausage, we ask our guests to bring all the trimmings. Everyone is welcome.



July 4

The Rotary Club Freedom Festival will be held at Corsicana’s I.O.O.F. Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be food, music, and games for the children. Fireworks will take place after dark. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and join the community for the celebration.



Kerens Chamber of Commerce will host its 20th Annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July with a downtown celebration beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be a bicycle parade, so bring your decorated bikes and meet in front of the baseball field at 6:15 p.m. There will be a cake walk, train rides, sack races, washer pitching, bounce house, bingo, live music, egg toss, water games, and an Ice Cream “Churn Off.” Prizes will be awarded for the top three placings. Also available will be hot dog dinners, snowcones, watermelon and ice cream. Makes plans now to attend.



July 5

The Chatfield Cemetery Association will hold it’s Annual Homecoming Picnic at the Chatfield-Tupelo Community Center. The Bar-B-Q meal will begin at noon followed by the Annual Business Meeting at 1 p.m. The ticket price is $10 for adults and $5 for children. All proceeds benefit the care and upkeep of the Old and New Chatfield Cemeteries. If you are unable to attend, donations can be mailed to the Chatfield Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 45, Chatfield, TX 75105.

July 7

Piecemakers’ Quilt Guild of Corsicana will meet at the Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 3400 Highway 22. Meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. for refreshments and fellowship. Business meeting will start at 10 a.m. Following the meeting there will be a Christmas in July demo and workshop presented by one of the members.  The project for this meeting is a cute Santa Block. Bring your sewing machine and a sack lunch. Visitors are always welcome. July 26

The American Legion, Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will a BBQ and CASI Chili Cook Off starting at 8 a.m.. at the post. The BBQ contest will include brisket, pork ribs, local chili and beans with trophies awarded for the best tasting entries. The CASI contestants will be competing for points for Terlinqua Cook Off and trophies. For further information call 903-874-3938 after 2 p.m.
