Dec. 31

 The American Legion, Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St. will host a New Years Eve party with Byron Haynie providing the music from 8 p.m. to closing. There is a $5 entry fee that includes champagne and party favors. Come on out, enjoy the good music, party with us and help to ring the New Year. VFW Post 3366 will host its annual New Year’s Eve dance on Tuesday, Dec. 31 2013 from 8 p.m. till the New Year 2014. Heart of Texas Road Gang will be the entertainment for the evening. Tickets are $15 in advance or at the door. Tables can be reserved through Dec. 31. Tickets can be bought from the bartender in the post canteen. The post is on Veterans Drive off of West Hwy. 31 in Corsicana. Party favors and snacks will be provided. Get your tickets early for best choice of seating.



Jan. 1

Eureka Crime Watch will NOT hold a meeting in January due to the New Year’s holiday. Have a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. Hope to see everyone Feb. 5.



Jan. 2

Blooming Grove Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Historical Society building. Speaker is Navarro County Sheriff's Deputy Melanie Cagle.



The American Red Cross will hold a Corsicana Community Blood Drive from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 701 W. Second Ave. For an appointment call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).



Jan. 7

The Sunbeam Club will begin a new year of great fellowship and the sharing of railroad memories. The whistle will blow for railroaders, their families and friends, and anyone who loves a train at the I-HOP Restaurant in Ennis at 11:30 a.m.



The Blooming Grove Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Forcyce Street in Blooming Grove. Mary Ferrell will present a program on the Stanford Moore family. All interested people are invited to attend. For more information call 903-673-2635 or 903-695-2633.



Jan. 8

The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. for this month only. This change is necessary because of the New Year’s Day holiday. The meeting will be at the Post on North Beaton St., and all members as well as prospective members are urged to attend.



Jan. 13

Woodmen of the World Lodge 5 will have its meeting at 6 p.m. in the Lodge Hall at 200 W. Oak Lawn. All members, their families and guests are cordially invited to attend.



Jan. 14

The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m. The general public is invited to attend. Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. For further information, please call 903-872-5072.



Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting. We welcome any Veteran as an associate member who served honorably who does not meet the above criteria.



The National Association of Active/Retired Federal Employees (NARFE, Chapter 1191), will hold its monthly meeting at the Ryan Buffet Restaurant in Waxahachie from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tina Rider, North Texas Longterm Care Ombudsman, will be guest speaker. Jan. 25

Training for VITA volunteers (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Navarro College. VITA site opens Jan. 28 through April 15. Volunteers would act as tax preparers for qualifying low income and elderly individuals. Shifts to work the VITA site are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m.
