Dec. 3

The City Of Blooming Grove will hold its Monthly City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce, Blooming Grove.

 

Dec. 4

The Blooming Grove Historical Society will have a covered dish dinner at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Fordyce in Blooming Grove. All interested people are invited to attend. For more information call 903-695-2724 or 903-973-2635.



Dec. 5

American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. at the Legion, 632 N. Beaton. Come join our  Post 22. This meeting is held the first Wednesday of the month.



Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Eureka Methodist Church. Final plans will be made for the Christmas Project as well as future programs. Bring your favorite Christmas snacks, dips, chips, candies etc. and enjoy the fellowship with your friends and neighbors in celebrating the real “reason for the season!”



The Board of Directors of Kinsloe House invites members to its Christmas Tea from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Kinsloe House. The house will be decorated for the holidays and there will be food, music and fun for all. This is an annual tradition at Kinsloe House. There will also be a silent auction with many beautiful and interesting items for all to bid on. Members, be sure to put this on your calendar and come visit, feast on good food, and listen to Christmas music.



Dec. 6

Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. The speaker will be Navarro County Sheriff Les Cotten. Everone is welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.



A Christmas concert by the combined choirs of Corsicana ISD will take place at 7 p.m. at the Corsicana High School Auditorium. Choirs from Drane Intermediate, Collins Middle, and Corsicana High schools will perform individually, and in a combined group of 300 students. The concert is free and open to the public. The choirs will also be selling a Christmas CD at the event. The CDs will cost about $10.



Dec. 7-9

Second Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 3045 W. Second Ave., will host a free drive-thru Nativity Scene from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The public is invited.



Dec. 8

Shakers and Scrapers Car Club will hold its annual toy drive starting at 3 p.m. Please bring one or more unwrapped toy along with your classic car, truck, motorcycle. Admire each other’s cars and make sure those less fortunate have a wonderful Christmas. All toys will be donated to The Salvation  Army. Gather at Don’s Auto Center (Old Stewart’s Auto) at Second Ave. and Beaton Street. For more information, call Dan at (903) 467-7170.



A Charity Benefit Musical to benefit the Navarro County Family Services and the Navarro County Food Pantry will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Lifeline Fellowship Family Church, 5301 W. Hwy 31. Please come and support the organizations that help many families with food, clothing, medicine and spiritual guidance. You can help with a monetary donation, canned goods, or non-perishable items. Sponsored by Catherine Wright, Ruby Williams, and Family Service board members. Dec. 8

Big C Jamboree will be held at 7 p.m. at Martin’s Music Hall, 201 S. Beaton. Starring Zanada Schoppert, Chuck Wiginton, Ron Sikes, Joe Honea, Jody Thomas, and Bobby Fluker, emcee, with Fred Hayes, Billy Roy Mitcham and Stan Lawhon. Dec. 9

Holiday Tour of Homes to benefit the Blooming Grove Historical Society will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the homes of David and M’lis Long, Chad Briggs, Tim Nicholson, Sherry Smith, and Jean Hinkle. Dec. 10

Woodmen of the World Lodge 5's Christmas meeting will be at the Lone Star Room of the Kenneth Walker Dining Hall at Navarro College at 6 p.m. You must RSVP for this catered meal, please call Trudy at 903-874-7050 to give a head count by Dec. 4.



Dec. 11

Navarro Regional Hospital will hold a Diabetes Prevention Workshop once monthly for people with pre-diabetes or at risk for diabetes. These classes will be held on the second Tuesday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. The Diabetes Self-Management Comprehensive Program is an ongoing class for patients diagnosed with diabetes. The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m.  The general public is invited to attend.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. For further information, please call (903) 872-5072.



Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb, 28, 1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

    

National Active/Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1191 will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grand Buffet in Ennis. Members and guests are welcome. Dist. 3 representative Bernie Owens will install chapter officers and provide related comments. Bring canned goods for distribution to “Helping Hands” in Ennis. Dec. 12

The Flower Committee at Kinsloe House will present their contribution program called "Wrap It Up.” It's time to make your reservation to join us for a fun time. Mark your calendar soon as no reservation can be made after noon on Monday, Dec. 10.

The house is all dressed up for the holidays and we hope you will enjoy a joyous occasion. Dress is Christmas casual!

The committee members are Sandra Curtis, Judith Steely, Joan Summitt, Arlene Stewart, Linda Cross, Terri Orn, Barbara Erwin, Rita Edens, and Pam Dunn.  Kay Hable is the chairman.

Dec. 14

The Corsicana Newcomers' Club will hold its Christmas meeting at 11 a.m. at the Kinsloe House.  Zanada Schoppert will entertain the group with a medley of holiday favorites.  This is the perfect way to celebrate the Holidays with friends old and new!  Representatives from our charities will be on hand to receive our donations to their organizations. The Navarro County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 9:45 a.m. at Northwest Apartments Community Center, 1360 Northwest Ave. The program will be Christmas music presented by a quartet composed of Bernie Thompson, Larry Talbert, Peggy Smith and Lucy Waterman. All former school employees are invited to attend.



Dec. 15

Martin Luther King Jr. Center presents an Arts and Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will feature jewelry, children’s storybooks, hats, purses, scarves, decorative T-shirts, clothing, canned goods, and much more. A Frost High School Variety show, complete with bell choir, magic act and dancing and singing, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Frost Auditorium. The cost is $10 for adults, and $5 for anyone younger than 18 years. Following the show will be refreshments provided by the Collin Street Bakery. The money raised from the event will go towards a school trip to New York City next summer.



Dec. 17

The newly organized Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. Third Street (1 blk W of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the sweet treats and wear your best smile.  We will soon be approving by-laws and electing officers and committees so your leadership skills will be needed.  Come and join the party! The group’s main purpose is to discuss and protect issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available and earned by senior citizens and veterans.



Jan. 5, 2013

Mary Peterson Child Care Center will hold a concert and reception at 7:30 p.m. at The Cook Center. The purpose of the concert is to raise funds for a new facility to be constructed for Mary Peterson Child Care Center. This awareness event is themed “Bridge to the Future — Mary Peterson Child Care Center.”
