Corsicana — Barry Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Barbecue Fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Barry VFD, 105 W. South Front St. Brisket, sausage, chicken, beans, potato salad, tea and desserts will go for $8 for adults, and $4 for children. There will be a live auction featuring many items starting at 6 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the building fund. For more information contact Mike Ball at (903) 654-0901.

Oct. 28

Emhouse Community Center will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Judge H.M. Davenport Jr. will review the amendments that will be on the ballot. Everyone is invited. Refreshments will be served.

Nov. 2

Navarro County NAACP Branch 6209 will hold its Sixth Annual Freedom Fund Banquet at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 111, E. Sixth Ave. at 7 p.m. Theme is “Overcoming our Past and Embracing Our Future.” Speaker is Carol E. Wise, executive vice president, chief operating officer for Dallas Area Rapid Transit. Special guest honorees are Mr. and Mrs. George Burrell, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Biltz, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Williams, and Navarro County Habitat for Humanity Organization. Tickets are $20 each. Nov. 5

The Blooming Grove Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Fordyce St. in Blooming Grove. The speaker will be Elmer (Sonny) Boyd who is a retired detective with the Dallas Police Department and was involved in the investigation into the John F. Kennedy assassination on Nov. 22, 1963. He will reflect on the 50 years that have passed and bring photographs to display.  All interested people are invited to attend.  For more information call (903) 673-2635 or (903) 695-2633.

Oak Valley Crime Watch invites everyone to join its Thanksgiving Blessings Crime Watch Meeting and Dinner which will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Oak Valley Crime Watch will provide the turkey and we ask everyone to bring all their favorite side dishes.
