Piecemakers Quilt Guild will meet at the Westhill Church of Christ for refreshments and gossip from 9:30 a.m. til 10 a.m. After a short business meeting Sue Gorman will present a program and trunk show of her quilting projects. This will be a "pot-luck-lunch" meeting so bring your favorite dish and do with us what we do best. Eat! We have some wonderful cooks and some fantastic quilters. The Blooming Grove Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Fordyce St. in Blooming Grove. The program will consist of a recorded interview with Dwayne McGee and his Navy service with the Seebees in World War II. All interested people are invited to attend. Navarro County Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets at 6 p.m. each Tuesday, in the St. John’s Episcopal Church Annex, 417 W. Collin St., Corsicana. All are welcome to learn to give and receive support at the weekly meetings. On the first Tuesday of the month, Dr. Tom Sheriff, licensed psychologist, joins the group discussions on various aspects of mental health. For more information call (903) 872-6302.
The VFW Post 3366 at 100 Veterans Drive will host Mike Hall, Stan Lawhon and John Quarles as they perform in song beginning at 7 p.m. No cover charge, admittance is free. Come out and hear some talented musicians.
‘Backpacks of Love’ distribution will take place at Drane Intermediate School gymnasium. The program offers free school supplies for Navarro County students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch. Those wishing to take part need to bring proof of school enrollment for each child, proof of family income, and an original picture ID for the parent. Supplies will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 8, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 9, or until supplies run out. For more information, contact 903-872-5601 or 903-874-2517.

Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church. Special guest will be Buckley Butler, Reservoir Manager with the Tarrant County Water District. Join us for this informative meeting and the fellowship which follows. Refreshments will be served.
The Kinsloe House Social Committee will open its 2013-2014 Kinsloe House year with an exciting ice cream social for all old, new, and prospective members. The committee consists of Judy Rylie chairperson, with Elonda Cassady, Cindy Hayden, Beverly White, Carlene Woolf, and Lynn Taylor. This is always an exciting time for members to start the Kinsloe House year. This is an opportunity to visit with old friends to catch up on the summer activities, to become acquainted with new members and prospective members while enjoying light refreshments including a summertime favorite ice cream. City of Corsicana presents “Island Time” in its Second Saturday event series from 4 to 8 p.m. Activities normally held at Third and Main will be moved to Pocket Park this month, 118 N. Beaton. The kids can once again enjoy a free water slide from 4 to 8 p.m. behind Pocket Park off Fifth Avenue between Beaton and Main, and the addition of Spooner Boards should be fun too. Limbo and hula hoop contests begin at 5 p.m. Enjoy live music by Curlyhead and by Tommy-O & The Bamboo Boat band beginning at 5:45 p.m. at Pocket Park. There will be no outdoor vendors this month. Our final event of the 2013 series, “Fiesta Tejas” will be Sept. 14 from 3 to 8 p.m. This event will be back at the original location at Third Avenue between Beaton and Main with lots of fun, vendors, tamale contest, car club cruise-in and more. The Kinsloe House hosts the August First Sunday luncheon at Kinsloe House on Aug. 11, 2013. We are holding the luncheon at the regular time 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The luncheon will consist of chicken spaghetti or beef stroganoff, spinach salad, glazed carrots and green beans almandine. The two delicious desserts to choose from will be peach cobbler topped with ice cream and a brownie fudge sundae or a sugar free pudding. This event will be a nice way to start off Kinsloe House’s new year and to visit with friends.
