Kerens Ex-Students Association invites the public to come celebrate Mother's Day at the KESA building downtown and help local students go to college! Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The Goodlow Community will celebrate its Second Annual May Fest 2013 at 201 State Highway 309, Goodlow Community Center. Booth spaces are available for purchase at $35 per space until May 17. Navarro County Genealogical Society will take a field trip to Mesquite Cemetery at 5 p.m. Tickets must be reserved in advance by calling (972) 216-6468. Reserve your space for the 6:30 performance. Nine characters will bring their history to life, and the tour is about 45 minutes. The group will meet at the parking lot behind the Corsicana Chamber of Commerce at 5 p.m. They will not make time to stop to eat so please plan accordingly. The Emhouse 53rd School Reunion will be held at 11 a.m. at the Taylorosa Event Center on West Hwy. 22 and FM 744 in Corsicana. All faculty, students and friends are welcomed to attend and share some time to relive those wonderful years at Emhouse School. At our last reunion we had school students from 1941 through 1959 when the school closed. Everyone is asked to bring a favorite dish to share a great meal with our friends. Dinner will begin at 12 noon after gathering at 11 a.m., and we’ll be dismissed by 2 p.m. Please make plans to attend.
The First Annual Brittany Averitt Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament will be held with shotgun starts at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. It’s a four-man scramble, with lunch included for the golfers and barbecue sandwiches for sale. There will also be a raffle and silent auction. Something for everyone whether you golf or not, bar olympics with pool, darts and washers. Funds raised will go to a scholarship fund for Sam Houston State University in Brittany Averitt’s name.
The Hopewell Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at the cemetery at 11 a.m. The speaker and business meeting will be first, followed by a covered dish lunch afterwards. K.E.S.A. is raising money to build a Veterans Memorial in downtown Kerens. K.E.S.A. will host a fish fry to raise money for the Memorial from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adult plates are $8 and kids 10 and under cost $4 per plate. Please come out and support this effort to recognize veterans in Kerens.

The Navarro Regional Hospital Teen Volunteer Program will begin on June 10th. If you have a teenager between the ages 14-18 and they want to learn more about the medical field and earn volunteer hours, our summer program is just right for them.
