The Navarro County NAACP Unit 6209 is holding a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Rally and March at 10 a.m., and an oratory contest at noon. The march will go from Bunert Park to the MLK Center. Morris Johnson, educator and former student of G.W. Jackson High School, will be the guest speaker for the rally. There will be prizes awarded for first, second and third place in the “I Have a Dream” oratory contest. Special musical performances are also planned. Training for VITA volunteers (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Navarro College. VITA site opens Jan. 28 through April 15. Volunteers would act as tax preparers for qualifying low income and elderly individuals. Shifts to work the VITA site are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m.
