The American Legion, Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will hold it’s monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the post. All members and prospective members are invited to attend. The Sunbeam Club will begin a new year of great fellowship and the sharing of railroad memories. The whistle will blow for railroaders, their families and friends, and anyone who loves a train at the I-HOP Restaurant in Ennis at 11:30 a.m.
The Blooming Grove Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Forcyce Street in Blooming Grove. Mary Ferrell will present a program on the Stanford Moore family. All interested people are invited to attend. For more information call 903-673-2635 or 903-695-2633.
Oak Valley Crime Watch meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. We do not have a guest speaker at this time, but that could change. Food will be served pot luck style so bring your favorite dish. We hope to see you all there. Please spread the word.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. for this month only. This change is necessary because of the New Year’s Day holiday. The meeting will be at the Post on North Beaton St., and all members as well as prospective members are urged to attend.
The American Red Cross will hold a Corsicana Community Blood Drive from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 701 W. Second Ave. For an appointment call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
James Blair Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, is scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. at the Kinsloe House on Wednesday, Jan. 8. The program will be presented by former State Insignia Chairman Cynthia White. Chapter Regent Jan Warren will preside at the annual business meeting. Hostesses will be Geneva Davis and Mellie Howard.
The Kinsloe house music committee will present a toe-tapping program with Courtney Prater and Chris Aldama. Courtney and Chris have performed at many events in Navarro County. Angels of Corsicana will meet at 9 a.m. at 1020 North Business 45. All ages are welcome. If anyone knows someone serving in harm’s way, please bring their address to the meeting so they can send a gift box to them. This will begin the 11th year of serving our military. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave, Corsicana. The Navarro County NAACP Unit 6209 is holding a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Rally and March at 10 a.m., and an oratory contest at noon. The march will go from Bunert Park to the MLK Center. Morris Johnson, educator and former student of G.W. Jackson High School, will be the guest speaker for the rally. There will be prizes awarded for first, second and third place in the “I Have a Dream” oratory contest. Special musical performances are also planned. Jose Antonio Navarro Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. in the Nancy Roberts Civic Room at the Corsicana Public Library. The program will be regarding Lamar Heroes Day. Hostess will be Geneva Davis.
Thomas Meredith Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century, will meet at noon at the Kinsloe House to attend the program to be presented by Mildred ISD Drama students.

Training for VITA volunteers (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Navarro College. VITA site opens Jan. 28 through April 15. Volunteers would act as tax preparers for qualifying low income and elderly individuals. Shifts to work the VITA site are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m.

The G.W. Jackson Multi-Cultural Society will hold a fundraiser concert at 6:30 at the IOOF Event Center. Ricky Walter will serve as emcee. Headlining the acts will be Timothy Curry of Austin, joined by Gospel Five, NC Chosen Ministries, Straightations, Lifeline Church Praise Dancers, and the Grace Praise Group. This Gospel Extravaganza is in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but will raise funds to be used toward the construction of the G.W. Jackson Multi-Cultural Society building.

G.W. Jackson Heritage Rodeo will begin at 7 p.m. at the Navarro County Exposition Center. This pro rodeo still needs sponsorships. All funds raised will go toward construction of the G.W.
