Jan. 14

The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m. The general public is invited to attend. For further information, please call 903-872-5072.



Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting. We welcome any Veteran as an associate member.



The National Association of Active/Retired Federal Employees (NARFE, Chapter 1191), will hold its monthly meeting at the Ryan Buffet Restaurant in Waxahachie from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tina Rider, North Texas Longterm Care Ombudsman, will be guest speaker. The Warehouse Living Arts Center will hold the Season Ticket Appreciation Party and Annual Meeting at 7 p.m. All season ticket holders are invited for the election of officers, awards presentation and entertainment by some of the WLAC audiences favorite performers. The Warehouse Theatre's Corsicana Children’s Company acting classes for Grades 3-4-5 will begin from 4:30-5:45 p.m. In this eight-week session, "Intro to Theatre Arts" students will learn the basics of acting plus theatre terms, games, improvisation, make up and mask making. The N.A.A.C.P regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 1114 E. Sixth Ave. The executive board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Part Two of “Investing in Your Health Now and in the Future” will be presented by guests from JP Morgan Chase Bank, TriSun Care Center, and pre-arranged funeral plan and whole life insurance.

Jan. 16

The WarehouseTheatre's Corsicana Children’s Company acting classes for Grades 6-7-8-9 and high school grades will begin from 4:30 to 6  p.m. In this eight-week session “Intro to Monologues and Starting with Shakespeare”  the students will be introduced to Shakespeare and classic monologues. A showcase will be presented at the end of the camp for family and friends to let the world know what they have to offer. C. David Hill is the instructor. Jan. 18

Corsicana Vendors Day will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pegasus Ballroom, where the original KMart was on 13th St.





Jan. 19

A retirement celebration will be held for Jim Revill, Frost ISD Superintendent, at 2 p.m .in the Frost Performing Arts Center. All are invited.



Jan. 20

The Navarro County NAACP Unit 6209 is holding a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Rally and March at 10 a.m., and an oratory contest at noon. The march will go from Bunert Park to the MLK Center. Morris Johnson, educator and former student of G.W. Jackson High School, will be the guest speaker for the rally. There will be prizes awarded for first, second and third place in the “I Have a Dream” oratory contest. Special musical performances are also planned. The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance invites the public to join in celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 6 p.m. at the Second Mission Baptist Church, 909 S. Fifth St., where Pastor Larry L. Polk Sr. serves as host. “Keep the Dream Alive — A Day On, and Not a Day Off” will be the message brought by Pastor Alfred Cox Jr. of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Great gospel choirs, praise dancing and more will complete the service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.



Corsicana Art League will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center, 919 W. Park Ave. The program for this month will have a live model to draw, sketch or paint. The plan is to do short, quick sketches. Please bring your sketch pads, pencils, charcoal or whatever you would like. This will be a fun practice to improve our drawing skills.



Jan. 21

Jose Antonio Navarro Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. in the Nancy Roberts Civic Room at the Corsicana Public Library. The program will be regarding Lamar Heroes Day. Hostess will be Geneva Davis.



An ALZ Support Group will be held at Sterling House Assisted Living, 3329 W. Seventh Ave. Alzheimer’s takes a high toll on a family’s physical and mental health. Each third Tuesday of the month, Family Care of Texas will work with you and your loved one to improve your quality of life. The class will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Snacks will be provided.



Jan. 22

The Kinsloe House Young People Committee will host a group of students from Mildred ISD presenting some of their 1-Act Play performances. Meeting is at noon. Reservations and cancellations must be made by Monday, Jan. 20 at noon by calling 903-874-5791 or emailing thekinsloehouse@yahoo.com



Thomas Meredith Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century, will meet at noon at the Kinsloe House to attend the program to be presented by Mildred ISD Drama students.

Senior Circle Lunch and Learn. Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle presents “Behind the Scenes” with David King M.D. at 11 a.m. in the hospital classrooms. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes when you have a biopsy? Where does the biopsy go from surgery? Who examines it? How do they determine the outcome? Join us while Dr. King explains the role of a pathologist and how he determines the results.  Slides will be shown. Jan. 25

Training for VITA volunteers (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Navarro College. VITA site opens Jan. 28 through April 15. Volunteers would act as tax preparers for qualifying low income and elderly individuals. Shifts to work the VITA site are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m.

The G.W. Jackson Multicultural Society presents A Gospel Extravaganza at 6:30 p.m. at the IOOF Event Center, 601 N. 45th St. Ricky Walter will serve as emcee. Headlining the acts will be Gospel and Jazz recording artist Timothy Curry of Austin, joined by The Gospel Five, Navarro College Chosen Ministries, Straightations, Lifeline Church Praise Dancers, and Amy Roberts and the Unified Worship Group. This Gospel Extravaganza will commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with song and dance, but will raise funds to be used toward the construction of the G.W. The Warehouse Living Arts Center will open the 43rd consecutive season with “Moonlight and Magnolias” by Ron Hutchison on Thursday, Jan. 30. The cast features Mark Bedgood, Brad Cook, Marissa Hoskins Dobbs and Frank Means. Other performance dates are Jan. 31, Feb. 1-2, 4, 6-7-8. Feb. 4

Oak Valley Crime Watch will meet at 6 p.m. Guest speaker will be Bobby Vickery, who is running for Texas State Representative District 8. So, please come out and support your Oak Valley Crime Watch (Oak Valley Community Center). Please bring your favorite covered dish and a friend/neighbor. Everyone is welcome.

Feb. 5

American Legion Auxiliary meet at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend as there are some important business items that must be discussed and decisions made on upcoming projects. Visitors are always welcome.



Feb. 6

Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Historical Society Building. Guest speaker will be Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome to attend.



Feb. 13

Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle  will host a AARP Drivers Safety Course 10 a.m. to  2 p.m. in the hospital classrooms. The refresher course is designed for drivers 50 years and older. Feb. 15

The Navarro County Aggie Moms present the Singing Aggie Cadets in concert at the Palace Theatre at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for floor seats, $20 for balcony. G.W. Jackson Heritage Rodeo will begin at 7 p.m. at the Navarro County Exposition Center. This pro rodeo still needs sponsorships. All funds raised will go toward construction of the G.W.
