Navarro County Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets at 6 p.m. each Tuesday, in the fellowship hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 101 N. 14th St., Corsicana. All are welcome to learn to give and receive support at the weekly meetings. Corsicana Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will be at the Kerens Public Library from 1 to 4 p.m. each Wednesday until April 11. If you are a low income (usually under $42K) or elderly, and in need of tax filing assistance, take advantage of this free program. This year we are seeing clients with appointments first and then we’ll work with our walk-ins. VITA will be at the YMCA in Corsicana on Tuesday and Thursday from 2 until 7 p.m. and Wednesdays in Kerens at the library from 1 until 4 p.m. Call George Burrell at (903) 879-2091 to schedule your appointment.
The Literary Club will present their contribution program on March 20, 2013 at 12 noon. Chairman of the committee is Nan McClain, with committee members Marsha Banks, Carol Davenport, Martha Grove and Helen Boyd. The theme of the program is “Getting To Know Our World Cultures” and will be presented by five international students from Navarro College, accompanied by Elizabeth Wilson, Navarro College International Coordinator and Carol Davenport, Director of Special Events at Navarro College. There will be a very informative panel discussion of their cultures and the “American Experience.” This should be an interesting program for our members. Spotter training on SKYWARN, the system for recognizing and alerting the public to bad and dangerous weather, including tornadoes, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Palace Theater. Registration is not necessary, and the training session is free.
