Corsicana — Kerens Cotton Harvest Festival will be held today from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. In Historic Downtown Kerens (14 miles East of Corsicana on Hwy 31) there will be hot air balloons, a carnival, arts, crafts, food booths, quilt show, chili cook-off, mule wagon rides, gin tours, tractor pull, classic cars, unique vintage trailer tours, and live entertainment. The Navarro County Republican Women will host a program called “Restoration or Renovation.” Information concerning the upcoming bond election for the Navarro County Courthouse will be presented by Commissioners Dick Martin and James Olsen and County Auditor Kathy Hollomon. Social time and lunch begin at 11:30 a.m. The meeting and program will begin promptly at noon. Navarro County Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets at 6 p.m. each Tuesday in St. John’s Church Office Annex, 417 W. Collin St., Corsicana. All are welcome to learn to give and receive support at the weekly meetings. On the first Tuesday of the month, Dr. Tom Sheriff, licensed psychologist joins the group for discussions on various topics of mental health. For information call (903) 872-6302.
The Art Committee, headed by Barbara Jones, with Mabel Foster, Donna Ingham, Betty Partain, Barbara Watkins, and Christine Williams will present an informative program with two artists in different mediums. John Farmer is an accomplished woodworking and stained glass artist who will show the intricacy of woodworking and the making of stained glass platters and panels. Gladys Espenson is the other artist who has been fusing glass and painting stained glass using old stained glass masters techniques. Both of these artists have been doing this for awhile and will bring beauty to our program through their mediums. Members are urged to make their reservations or cancellations by Monday, Oct. 21 at 12 noon.
