The Navarro County Courthouse Memorial Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on the northwest corner of the courthouse lawn. The speaker will be Ron Wright, former president of Vietnam Veterans of America, Navarro Rifles Chapter 1009. Wright grew up in Waxahachie, and has lived in Corsicana over 11 years. He was in the Army from 1966 to 1975, and saw combat during the Vietnam War, earning numerous medals and citations.

Memorial Day Service at Woodland Memorial Cemetery will be held at 1 p.m. Guest speaker will be Col. Bill Downey, the grandson of legendary first black veterinarian in the state of Texas. The theme will be “Gone, But Not Forgotten.” Sponsored by the Single Believers Ministries and Woodland Cemetery Association. When Are We Going Home Ministry will hold its Spirit Sent Music Ministry at New Beginnings Family Fellowship in Blooming Grove at 6 p.m. with its Annual Luau Party. All events are free and open to children with medical challenges, disabilities and special needs and their immediate siblings. www.whenarewegoinghome.com.

The Navarro County Republican Women will meet at the Republican Headquarters, 111-B West Third Avenue.  Social time and lunch begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the meeting and program at noon. This month's program features Steve Dieterichs, Director of Corsicana Main Street. Make your lunch reservations by Saturday, May 25, with Margarita Patterson at arcepark@peoplepc.com or (903) 874-8785. Lunch is $7 at the door. Everyone who is interested is invited to attend and learn more about the Republican Women's organization.

Kerens Independent School District announces the retirement of Amy Carr. We invite you to join Mrs. Carr in celebrating 35 years of service dedicated to educational leadership, academic excellence, and love of students and faculty at Kerens Elementary, as well as Corsicana Independent School District. There will be a reception to honor Mrs. Carr at the KISD Board Room from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
