May 31

Navarro County AARP will meet at 2 p.m. at Northwest Apartments Community Room, 1360 N. 13th Ave. We plan to have a games day with our members and guests. Please come and make this a great meeting. President Nora Thomas urges all members to attend, and bring a food dish and a door prize. For more information call (903) 396-2765. (This meeting was originally scheduled for  May 23.)

The Navarro Council of the arts presents "With Six You Get Eggrolls" a Fine Art Exhibit featuring the works of Helen Albritton, Barbara Jones, Gladys Espenson, Deb Miller, Stephanie Ford, and Margie Taylor at the Warehouse Gallery from May 15 to July.  Exhibit is free and open to the public daily.



June 1

Barry Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a fundraiser BBQ dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is taking place at the Barry United Methodist Church on Highway 22 and FM 1126.



Dawson Volunteer Fire Department is holding a fundraiser BBQ dinner and auction at the fire station starting at 5 p.m. There will be a BBQ dinner, auction, and music from Billy Ray Mitchum and the Glory Bound Singers. Your donations for the evening will go to support the Dawson Volunteer Fire Department.



Mildred Eagle Cheerleaders along with Beck Animal Clinic will sponsor a low cost vaccination clinic from 9 a.m. to noon at Mildred High School. Cats, dogs and horses are welcome.  For additional information please contact Jamie Kitchens at (903) 875-9729 or  kitchensj@mildredisd.org.

 

The American Legion, Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will hold its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the post. All members and prospective members are invited to attend. Emhouse 4H club is hosting a low-cost vaccine Vet clinic from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Emhouse Community Center. Rabies shots will be $7.50. The vet will also do a variety of vaccines and worming for cogs, cats and Coggins for horses.  



June 2

The Kerens Presbyterian Church will celebrate the 144th Anniversary of its founding. Coffee and social hour will be at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. Dr. Shellie O’Neal, drama teacher at Navarro College, will present her one-woman portrayal of the famous Christian song writer, Fanny Crosby. A buffet for members, past members and guests will be served after the service. Visitors are welcome.



The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will hold auditions at 2:30 p.m. for Ken Ludwig’s hilarious comedy, “Moon Over Buffalo.”  Roles are available for two men and one woman: ages 50's-60's; one woman:  age 70's-80's; two women: Late teens-30's;  and two men: Late teens-30's. Performance dates will be July 18 - 27, 2013. The madcap comedy is the story of Charlotte and George Hay who are on tour in Buffalo in 1953 with a repertory consisting of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” ‘the revised, one nostril version’ and Noel Coward's “Private Lives,” when they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom because Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee. The theatre is located at 119 W Sixth Avenue in downtown Corsicana across from the post office.



June 3

The City Of Blooming Grove will hold its monthly city council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce, Blooming Grove.



Piecemakers Quilt Guild will meet at the Westhill Church of Christ for refreshments  and gossip from 9:30 a.m. til 10 a.m. After a short business meeting Linda Weeks will present a program on “Embroidery on Quilts.” Members and guests will then be able to browse many, many goodies brought by Melissa Picha, from the Compass Center Shop at her Quilt Retreat Center. All quilters and “wanna-be” quilters are invited. Bring a sack lunch and project to work on and  spend the afternoon at “Sit and Sew.” This is a great opportunity to see current projects of other quilters and get renewed inspirations. Oak Valley Crime Watch will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Valley Community Center. Bring a covered dish, and enjoy good food, fun and fellowship.

June 5

The Thalian Club will once again present the versatile Dave Tanner for its program. Tanner’s program will be “Songs from the Brill Building.”  Guests will hear songs they will remember and sang along to, and many may want to sing to again. Tanner will play through the meal as well as present his program. Members make your reservations early as Dave’s programs are all sell-outs. June 6

Blooming Grove Crime Watch will host District Judge James Lagomarsino at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Dept.

 

June 8

Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 9 a.m. at 1020 North Business 45. All are welcome. If anyone has a loved one serving in harm’s way please bring their address to the packing so a gift box can be sent to them. They are asking for donations of one pound cans of coffee, sun screen, bug repellant and wipes. Please bring to the meeting and packing. The Providence Cemetery Association annual meeting will be held at 11 a.m. There will be a picnic lunch, meeting and work session. Activities include microbrew tastings, stick horse rodeo, salsa making competition and pony rides. June 9

Midway Cemetery in Winkler will have its memorial services and lunch. Church service followed by a short business meeting will begin at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow. Please bring a covered dish, utensils and drinks will be provided. Donations are payable to Midway Cemetery and may be sent to Rex Folmar, 16050 SE CR 2380, Streetman, Texas 75859.



Rose Hill Cemetery Association will hold its Annual meeting at the Blooming Grove High School Cafeteria at 12:30 p.m. As always they look forward to those coming to bring a delicious covered dish. Awards and door prizes are given out during the  meeting. Kids are always welcome. Bring your children and grandchildren and keep the Rose Hill tradition going.



Post Oak Cemetery Association will host its annual meeting at 12:30 p.m. at the Roane Baptist Church. Members should bring a covered dish and their families. Following the lunch, a short business meeting will take place and slate of officers chosen.



June 10

The Navarro Regional Hospital Teen Volunteer Program begins for the summer. If you have a teenager between the ages 14-18 and they want to learn more about the medical field and earn volunteer hours, the summer program is just right for them. Woodmen of the World Lodge 5 will have its meeting at 6 p.m. in the Lodge Hall at 200 W. Oak Lawn. All members, their families and guests are cordially invited.



June 11

The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m. The general public is invited to attend. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice sponsors a “Healing through Grief” support group that meets for lunch the second Wednesday of each quarter. Please join us at noon at 625 N. Main and bring a guest. Jackson Ex-Students Association will hold its 2013 Juneteenth Pageant at Drane Middle School. This is a fundraiser to support the JESA Scholarship Fund. Girls ages 13 through 19 and babies to age 6 are being sought to come participate in an annual fun event. Senior Circle at Navarro Regional Hospital will hold its Senior Circle Lunch and Learn in the hospital classrooms from noon to 1 p.m. Topic is “Identity Theft: How Safe Are You?” Identity theft happens all the time, whether over the phone or in a store, it can happen to you. Join Officer James Hudson of the Corsicana Police Department to find out how not to fall into the path of Identity theft.
