April 15

The Corsicana Art League will meet at 6 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center. Jo Skewes will present a book review of “How Georgia Became O'Keefe, Lessons on the Art of Living.” Come bring a friend and join with others who are interested the arts. For more info call (903) 519-9082.

The Corsicana Art League will hold an exhibit at the Warehouse Living Arts Theatre Gallery.



April 16

The Corsicana Police Officer’s Wives Auxiliary is teaming up with Cotton Patch Cafe for a fund-raising campaign. From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Cotton Patch will donate 10 percent of all sales to benefit CPOWA. All proceeds go directly back into the community thorugh the group’s various service projects.



The Navarro College International Students invites the community to its annual Micronesian Festival from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Barracks Bunch Clock Tower Courtyard. Free food will be available for sampling from the Micronesian community and International students, along with live entertainment from Micronesia, the Navarro College Step team, and the International community. Jose Antonio Navarro Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas will hold a meeting at 2 p.m. at 416A W. Third Ave. All members are urged to attend.



April 17

The Kinsloe House Building committee headed by Cindy Erwin will host an interesting program on the Coast Guard Auxiliary presence in the area.

Jan Harding, vice-commander of Flotilla 5-16, will give a very interesting program on how the Coast Guard Auxiliary helps boaters in the area. Please call (903) 874-5791 to make reservations or cancellations by Monday, April 15 at 12 noon.



April 18

Navarro College Multimedia Department presents Media Fest 2013, to be held at 10 a.m. at the Cook Center Planetarium at Navarro College. This is a great opportunity to see the best work produced by our multimedia students during the last year. There will be photography, drawings, paintings, 3-D, music, and video on display on the planetarium ceiling. Everyone is welcome. April 20

The American Legion, Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will have a Fish Fry with all the trimmings from 4 to 8 p.m.  Price is $10 per plate (all you can eat) or $6 per plate for carry out.  The Post will be rocking with the One Less Monkey band starting at 9 p.m.



Dawson Lions Club invites all to come eat and bid for a bargain on items supplied by handicrafters and local merchants to help the Lions Club of Dawson support the community.  Most of the proceeds will go to fund Dawson ISD projects and scholarships.  Join us at the Dawson ISD cafeteria at the end of Third street which runs past the Methodist Church off Main Street.  Bring an item for the auction and make a donation for the meal and then bid and take your prizes home.  The eating will start at 5 p.m. and continue through the auction.  To donate an item for bidding or to purchase a ticket for a new TV or for more information call Pat Phagan at (254) 578-3868.  By the way ask for a membership form and join the roaring Lions to help the Bulldogs.



The VFW Post 3366 will have its end of the month dance on April 20 due to Derrick Days being on the 27th.  The band will be Heart of Texas Road Gang! Dance starts at 8 p.m. and will end around midnite. There is no cover charge. Donations will be accepted to help pay the band. Come out for a great night of fellowship and dancing.



Inaugural Rope for Rylance Memorial Team Roping will be held at Freestone County Cowboy Church arena, Hwy 84 between Fairfield and Teague. Books open at 12 noon, roping begins at 1 p.m. Alternate rainout date is May 4, same time and location. Admission is free, donations will be accepted for the Rylance Memorial Fund. The first event will be completely to help the family of Rylance, who passed away Dec. 28, 2012 at the age of 10 months and 18 days, with hospital and burial expenses. There will be a silent auction following the roping events, with a grand prize for the roping being a Two-Horse slant bumper trailer with walk-in tack room. Concession stand will be provided by Cowboy Church. Each year’s event following the inaugural event will go towards a scholarship in Rylance’s name.

When Are We Going Home Ministry and its Spirit Sent Music Ministry will meet at New Beginnings Family Fellowship in Blooming Grove at 6 p.m. This is the night of the Annual Talent Show. Mystery Art in Tuckertown is a silent auction and reception featuring local artists. This fundraiser supports the efforts of both the Navarro Council of the Arts and VOICE. “Pillars of our Past, Celebrating the people, places, and events in Navarro County History”  will be the theme this year. Mystery Art in Tuckertown will feature 8 x 10 art work with silent bids starting at $35. The art will be on display at the Warehouse Living Arts Center April 17-26. There will be a reception with food and drinks which will feature the artwork from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 25 at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, 119 W.  Sixth Ave. Artist’s names will be revealed at the end of the auction. The Inaugural Oil Baron’s Ball will benefit Derrick Days and VOICE. The black tie event will feature fine food, entertainment and dancing. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Navarro County Genealogical Society will take a field trip to Mesquite Cemetery at 5 p.m. Tickets must be reserved in advance by calling (972) 216-6468. Reserve your space for the 6:30 performance. Nine characters will bring their history to life, and the tour is about 45 minutes. The group will meet at the parking lot behind the Corsicana Chamber of Commerce at 5 p.m. They will not make time to stop to eat so please plan accordingly. The Ninth Annual VOICE Spring Luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. at The Cook Center. The VOICE Spring Luncheon is a traditional fundraiser held each year to gain support for VOICE programs and services provided to children and families. This year will feature a red-carpet style theme with a fashion show, a silent auction, and will be emceed by national renowned Joan Rivers impersonator Ellie Weingardt.
