The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at the post. All members and prospective members are invited to attend. The Blooming Grove Historical Society will meet At 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Fordyce St. in Blooming Grove.  There will be a covered dish meal and all interested people are invited to attend.  For more information call 903-673-2635 or 903-695-2633.



Oak Valley Crime watch welcomes you to attend our Christmas celebration at 6:30 p.m. We will have a potluck style dinner, games, and crime watch. Please bring a white elephant gift and your favorite snack style food and be ready for a fun evening. Everyone is welcome. Event is held at the Oak Valley community center.



The Southern Pacific Sunbeam Club will end the year of 2013 with a meeting at IHOP in Ennis at 11:30 a.m. Mark your calendar, bring a friend, and plan to be there to share railroad stories and upcoming December events.



Dec. 4-8

The Corsicana Children's Company will present “Nutcracker”  Dec. 4-6 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 7-8 at 2:30 p.m.  Tickets are $8 for Adults, $7 for Teens and $6 for Kids 12 and younger.  Also check out our Nutcracker Tea on Dec. 7 from 12 to 2 p.m. The Tea includes Lunch, tickets to Saturday's show at 2:30, tour of the theater and a special take-home treat. Pictures with Nutcracker and Marie are available for $5. Tea Tickets are $20 for Adult, $15 for Teens and $10 for Kids 12 and younger. Dec. 4

The Board of Directors of Kinsloe House invites members and guests to its annual Christmas Tea from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Kinsloe House. There will also be a Silent Auction with many beautiful and interesting items for all to bid on. Members, be sure and put this on your calendar.



Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Eureka United Methodist Church. Final plans will be made for the Christmas project and a celebration of the holiday will follow. Bring your favorite party goodies and join friends and neighbors as we enjoy food and fellowship.



Dec. 5

Santa will be at the Navarro College Cook Center  at 6 pm. There will be a free screening of “The Grinch.” Phi Theta Kappa will have hot dogs, hot cocoa and refreshments for sale.  Wear your favorite holiday sweater or pajamas. Santa will be available for pictures, so people should bring their own cameras.



Blooming Grove Crime Watch will host speaker Ray Jacobs, retired NFL football player and probation officer, at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove HIstorical Museum in downtown Blooming Grove. Everyone is invited, everyone is welcome.



VFW Post 3366 will have its monthly meeting of all members at 6:30 p.m. All members are urged to attend!



Dec. 6

Thousands of holiday lights will illuminate historic Downtown Corsicana as the annual Downtown Open House & Lighting Celebration takes place from 5 to 6 p.m. The community is invited to join us at Pocket Park, 118 N. Beaton Street, for food, entertainment, and fireworks, as we light up the town. Many downtown businesses will remain open, and Santa will be there passing out treats. The A Capella Choir from Corsicana High School will perform, and from 3 to 5 p.m. that day, holiday photos with Santa will be offered in Pocket Park. This event is sponsored by the City of Corsicana Parks & Recreation and Main Street Program. For more information call (903) 654-4852.



The Navarro County Retired Teachers will meet Friday, Dec. 6 at Northwest Apartments Community Center, 1360 Northwest Ave. at 9:45 a.m. The program will be Christmas Music presented by Amy Knauth Cook and Patty Knauth, vice president of RTA.

Dec. 7

Blooming Grove is having its Christmas parade and celebration beginning with the parade lineup at 10:30 a.m. The theme is an "Old Fashioned Western Christmas."  The parade line up is at the high school parking lot. The parade goes through downtown starting at 11 a.m. Park activities will follow including food booths, pictures with Santa, a silent auction and bake sale, carolers and other entertainment, door prizes, and a Santa look alike contest. Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 10 a.m. at the American Legion, 624 N. Beaton, to help pack Christmas stockings for approximately 325 military personnel. There will be a free lunch provided by the American Legion Auxiliary immediately following the packing. All are welcome, including little ones. Donations are being received until Dec. 7 at the Angel Room at 1020 N. Bus. 45 in the mornings, and at the American Legion Hall after 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Navarro County Toy Run will begin at the VFW, 4609 W. Hwy 31. Leave at 11 a.m. and enjoy a scenic country ride that ends back at the VFW. Entry is one new unwrapped toy or $10 per person. Corsicana Police Officers' Wives Auxiliary is hosting a Toy Drive on Dec. 7, 3 to 5:30 p.m. at 201 S. Beaton St.  We will also be collecting coats, blankets, electric heaters and food donations to be donated to local charities. Bring your own cameras for photos with Santa Claus.



Dec. 9

Woodmen of the World Lodge 5's Christmas meeting will be at the Lone Star Room of the Kenneth Walker Dining Hall at Navarro College at 6 p.m.  You must RSVP for this catered meal, please call Trudy at 903-874-7050 or the office at 903-872-8468 to give a head count by Dec. 4.  Don't be late.



Dec. 10

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting. We welcome any Veteran as an associate member who served honorably who does not meet the above criteria.



The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m. The general public is invited to attend.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.  For further information, please call 903-872-5072.

The Corsicana Newcomers' Club will hold its monthly meeting at Kinsloe House at 11 a.m. This meeting is early due to the Christmas Holiday.  Steve Colburn will perform a medley of favorite music and quite probably get us all in the Christmas Spirit! Jan. 25

Training for VITA volunteers (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Navarro College. VITA site opens Jan. 28 through April 15. Volunteers would act as tax preparers for qualifying low income and elderly individuals. Shifts to work the VITA site are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m.
