Corsicana — A listing of meetings and events of interest from throughout Navarro County.

March 19

Jose Antonio Navarro Chapter Daughters of the Republic of Texas will meet at 2 p.m. in the meting room on West Third Avenue in Corsicana. All members are asked to attend.

Corsicana Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will be at the Corsicana YMCA from 2 to 7 p.m. If you are low income (usually under $42K) or elderly, and in need of tax filing assistance, take advantage of this free program. This year VITA will see clients with appointments first and then work with walk-ins. VITA is at the YMCA on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at the Kerens Library on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Call George Burrell at (903) 879-2091 to schedule your appointment.

Navarro County Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets at 6 p.m. each Tuesday, in the fellowship hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 101 N. 14th St., Corsicana.  All are welcome to learn to give and receive support at the weekly meetings. On the first Tuesday of the month, Dr. Tom Sheriff, licensed psychologist, joins the group discussions on various aspects of mental health. The Literary Club will present their contribution program on March 20, 2013 at 12 noon. Chairman of the committee is Nan McClain, with committee members Marsha Banks, Carol Davenport, Martha Grove and Helen Boyd. The theme of the  program is “Getting To Know Our World Cultures” and will be presented by five international students from Navarro College, accompanied by Elizabeth Wilson, Navarro College International Coordinator and Carol Davenport, Director of Special Events at Navarro College. There will be a very informative panel discussion of their cultures and the “American Experience.” This should be an interesting program for our members.
