March 16

Trinidad Volunteer Fire Department will host The Plummer Family Country Music Show at the Trinidad High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. This group is formerly of Branson, and the money raised will go to benefit the Trinidad VFD. Adult tickets in advance are $10, and will be $12 at the door; children 12 and under are $5, and no charge for pre-school and younger. For more information, call (903) 778-2600.

On the first Tuesday of the month, Dr. Tom Sheriff, licensed psychologist, joins the group discussions on various aspects of mental health. The Literary Club will present their contribution program on March 20, 2013 at 12 noon. Chairman of the committee is Nan McClain, with committee members Marsha Banks, Carol Davenport, Martha Grove and Helen Boyd. The theme of the  program is “Getting To Know Our World Cultures” and will be presented by five international students from Navarro College, accompanied by Elizabeth Wilson, Navarro College International Coordinator and Carol Davenport, Director of Special Events at Navarro College. There will be a very informative panel discussion of their cultures and the “American Experience.” This should be an interesting program for our members. Spotter training on SKYWARN, the system for recognizing and alerting the public to bad and dangerous weather, including tornadoes, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Palace Theater. Registration is not necessary, and the training session is free.

Corsicana Palace Theatre, 112 W. Sixth Ave., presents Ricky Nelson Remembered at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $30 to $40. The Mike Dickens Memorial Youth Organization is hosting a Civil War Re-enactment Saturday and Sunday as a fundraiser for youth sports in Rice. Displays, vendor booths and battle re-enactments are taking place Saturday and Sunday, and a dinner/dance will be held Saturday night. March 25

The newly organized Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. Third Street (one block West of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the sweet treats and wear your best smile.  We will soon be approving by-laws and electing officers and committees so your leadership skills will be needed.  Come and join the Party! The group’s main purpose is to discuss and protect issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available and earned by Senior Citizens and Veterans.

The Hop Downtown - Annual event sponsored by the Corsicana Main Street Program, Corsicana Parks and Recreation, and local businesses from 3 to 5:30 p.m. There will be games for the kids, a bounce house, face painting, a drawing for free bikes, photos in Pocket Park, refreshments, and the Easter Bunny. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

The Second Annual Richland Craft and Vendor Fair will be held at 103 W Main St., Civic Center, Richland. Inside space w/table $25; outside covered space w/table $15; outside space no cover or table $10. All vendors also donate two non-perishable food items to the Richland food pantry. A portion of the table rental proceeds will go to the volunteer fire department. Navarro College Multimedia Department presents Media Fest 2013, to be held at 10 a.m. at the Cook Center Planetarium at Navarro College. This is a great opportunity to see the best work produced by our multimedia students during the last year. There will be photography, drawings, paintings, 3-D, music, and video on display on the planetarium ceiling. Everyone is welcome. Mystery Art in Tuckertown is a silent auction and reception featuring local artists. This fundraiser supports the efforts of both the Navarro Council of the Arts and VOICE. “Pillars of our Past, Celebrating the people, places, and events in Navarro County History”  will be the theme this year. Mystery Art in Tuckertown will feature 8 x 10 art work with silent bids starting at $35. The art will be on display at the Warehouse Living Arts Center April 17-26. There will be a reception with food and drinks which will feature the artwork from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 25 at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, 119 W.  Sixth Ave. Artist’s names will be revealed at the end of the auction.
