Oct. 29

VOICE will participate in Chili’s Give Back Event from 4 to 10 p.m. During this time, 10 percent of all purchases will go to support the programs and services that VOICE provides to children and families. Oct. 30

The State Comptroller’s office will have its Unclaimed Property Team at the Navarro County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to help the public with searches for unclaimed property that the state of Texas is currently holding. Oct. 31

The annual Downtown Trick-Or-Treat will be from 3 to 5:30 p.m. The Beaton Street Boo Ride (haunted hay ride) is back, there will be a costume contest for ages 0-12, barrel train ride, bounce house, the Corsicana Animal Shelter will have an animal adoption, lots of games, candy, cookies, balloons, goodies, and more. Also, Shall We Dance Fitness Studio is offering a Haunted Tour for $2 that day, and there will be photos in the Pocket Park for a fee. This event is sponsored by local Corsicana businesses, The City of Corsicana Parks & Recreation Department, and The Main Street Program. Nov. 2

Navarro County NAACP Branch 6209 will hold its Sixth Annual Freedom Fund Banquet at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 111, E. Sixth Ave. at 7 p.m. Theme is “Overcoming our Past and Embracing Our Future.” Speaker is Carol E. Wise, executive vice president, CEO for Dallas Area Rapid Transit. Special guest honorees are Mr. and Mrs. George Burrell, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Biltz, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Williams, and Navarro County Habitat for Humanity Organization. Tickets are $20 each. Cars of Navarro County will host a final Cruise-In of the season on Seventh Ave. at the New Exxon Tiger Tote from 12 noon to 3 p.m. (may register until 1:30 p.m.). There will be a $10 entry fee. Proceeds will benefit the Navarro County Food Pantry.



Nov. 3

The Kinsloe House will host the First Sunday Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This month will feature a guest caterer, Suzanne Plyer of Thyme and Elegance. Nov. 4

Piecemakers Quilt Guild will meet at Westhill Church of Christ for refreshments and gossip from 9:30 til 10 a.m. After a short business meeting a Trunk Show and  program on “Sew Inspired” will be presented by Sara Miller. All quilters and “wanna-be” quilters are invited.  Bring a sack lunch and project to work on and spend the afternoon at “Sit 'n Sew.”  This is a great opportunity to learn to quilt or polish up your skills. Nov. 5

The Blooming Grove Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Fordyce St. in Blooming Grove. The speaker will be Elmer (Sonny) Boyd who is a retired detective with the Dallas Police Department and was involved in the investigation into the John F. Kennedy assassination on Nov. 22, 1963. Oak Valley Crime Watch invites everyone to join its Thanksgiving Blessings Crime Watch Meeting and Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Oak Valley Crime Watch will provide the turkey and we ask everyone to bring all their favorite side dishes. Oak Valley Crime Watch welcomes everyone.



Nov. 6

The Kinsloe House Volunteer Committee headed by Clara Hickerson and others will present a delightful and entertaining program with Jim Cathey, a renowned cowboy poet, on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Jim has won many prestigious awards nationally and locally. Jim started out at the Mabank Library Cowboy Breakfast fundraiser. He has written over 100 poems, and produced a CD with 16 of his poems. His work is featured at cowboypoetry.com. Jim attributes his love of poetry to his granddad and to living a rural lifestyle that provides many true life situations used in his poetry. He is still writing poetry and entering competitions. Jim is a true Texan. Nov. 7

Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. in the Blooming Grove Historical Society building. Guest speaker will be Jenny Bratton, director of the Child Advocacy Center in Corsicana. Everyone is welcome to attend.



American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 320 N. 15th St., Corsicana. In addition to helping save a life by giving blood, the Red Cross is also asking for donations of new winter clothing, such as sweatshirts and sweatpants, which are included on response vehicles when responding to house fires and disasters during cold fall and winter months.



Nov. 11

Woodmen of the World Lodge 5's Thanksgiving meeting will be at the Lone Star Room of the Kenneth Walker Dining Hall at Navarro College at 6 p.m. RSVP by Nov. 6 to 903-874-7050.



Nov. 12

The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m. The general public is invited to attend. Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. For further information, please call (903) 872-5072.



Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting. They welcome any Veteran as an associate member who served honorably.



The National Association of Active/Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Chapter 1191, will hold its monthly meeting at the Sirloin Stockade restaurant in Corsicana from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013. A representative from Blue-Cross-Blue Shield will be our guest speaker.  The presentation will include an overview of the FEHB program and prospective changes to the program.  Members, guests, and all who are part of our federal family come join us. Nov. 14

Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle Chapter will celebrate its Fifth Anniversary with Boots and Bangles Expo and Dinner. Expo begins at 5 p.m. and event at 6 p.m. at the IOOF Event Center. Singers Byron Haynie and Taylor Parks will entertain. There will be a photo booth. Bring a non-perishable donation for the local food pantry. This event is free for Senior Circle members, and $15 for non-members (which includes a one-year membership). Nov. 15

The Corsicana Newcomers' Club will hold its monthly meeting at Kinsloe House at 11 a.m. This meeting is early due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Dr Tommy Stringer, Director of the Cook Center Museum will be guest speaker. Nov. 16

Blooming Grove VFD will hold a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Fire station. Please come out and eat a fine stack of pancakes, and support your local Volunteer Fire Department.



Nov. 21

A one day Driver Safety Program will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 21 at Navarro Regional Hospital located at 3310 W. Highway 22 in Corsicana. The refresher course is designed for drivers 50 years of age and older, but is open to anyone. The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Attendees may qualify for reductions in automobile insurance premiums for three years upon completion of the course. For more information call 903-654-6892.



Nov. 23

Richland Community Park will host a Sweet Shop fundraising event from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Russell Stover Candies in Corsicana. The store will donate 10 percent of purchases during the event hours to the park to help pay for a basketball court and other playground equipment.
