Corsicana — Black Hills Cemetery Association will hold its annual Fund Raiser. One hundred percent of the monies raised at this event will cover the care and upkeep of the old Navarro County Black Hills Cemetery during the next 12 months. Please feel free to come join us for lunch and a few unique finds! The meeting will be held at Watkins Construction at the corner of Hillside Drive (South 15th Street) and I-45.  Lunch will be served at 12 Noon (adults $6 and children $5) and an Auction will follow. You will be able to purchase handmade crafts, homemade pies, cakes and cookies. At this time, BHCA is also selling Raffle Tickets for a hand stitched king size quilt, numerous matching pillows and a framed quilted panel that matches the quilt. This quilt set was donated in memory of Linda Lee. Mrs. Lee and her friend, Wanda Meredith, spent many hours quilting. Every stitch on the quilt, panel and pillows were entirely hand-stitched. During the year, BHCA also sells the Black Hills Cemetery Cookbook, which can be bought at the Corsicana Vistior’s Center, P & S Pharmacy on Main Street, or by calling one of the Directors at (903) 654-3369, (903) 872-5987 or (903) 875-4915.

The Chatfield Cemetery Association will hold its Annual Picnic and Barbecue on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 12 noon at the Chatfield-Tupelo Community Center.  Chatfield's own John Ellington will prepare barbecue with all the customary trimmings. Cost is $7 for adults. Children 4-12 will be half price. Children under 3 are free as are Seniors age 90 and above. In honor of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, the Association will honor the only veteran of that war buried in Navarro County, Henry Griggs.  War of 1812 re-enactors and Officials of the Society of the War of 1812 and other descendant organizations will assist.  All proceeds will benefit the historic cemeteries at Chatfield maintained by the Association.  If you or members of your family cannot attend, donations may be sent to Chatfield Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 45, Chatfield, Texas  75105.  For more information, call (903) 654-2066.
