Big things are coming to Corsicana – two to be exact. The Corsicana Bowl announced two months ago has gained a lot of momentum and sponsors, and will pit two Division II college football teams against each other here 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec 2 at Tiger Stadium. The brainchild of Tony Taulton, Executive Director of the Corsicana Bowl, is showing to keep its promise of creating a new major event for Corsicana.

“The reception from the city, in terms of sponsors, is amazing,” Taulton said. “They have been really supportive of the cause … Corsicana is a good city, with a good stadium and good people.”

The two teams to play have yet to be determined, but the roster has been thinned to a small selection after reviewing three conferences. The remaining potential teams are as follows: Tarleton State, Angelo State, Texas A&M Commerce, University of Central Oklahoma, Southeastern Oklahoma State, and Eastern New Mexico University. The two teams to play at the Corsicana Bowl will be selected by Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Each team for the Bowl Game will receive 3,000 tickets to sell to its students and visitors, totaling 6,000 seats for the visiting teams. This leaves 4,000 seats for the citizens of Corsicana to fill.

To recap, the Corsicana Bowl is an idea devised by Taulton in August to develop a new Bowl game for Texas college football. Taulton has worked with several people in the past who have promoted bowl games, and when searching for ideal locations, he found Corsicana and believed the town to be the ideal setting.

“It started with Richey Cutrer,” Taulton said. “I met with him saying this is what I was looking to do; the location is perfect, it's a city of 27,000 people with a stadium that seats 10,001. Richey loved the idea of a Division II football game coming to Corsicana. After talking and meeting with him several times was when I met Joanna Fritz and Josh Tackett of the Chamber of Commerce. They too supported the Bowl from that point on.”
