The Daily Sun has learned that the Rice Police Department is working with the Dallas office of the FBI investigating a case of alleged embezzlement of funds from the First State Bank of Rice.

The Rice police department made an arrest in the case on March 27. Charlotte McCaffety, a bank employee at the time, was arrested by Rice Police and was later released on bond. Police records show McCaffety with a rural Ellis County address.

John Ellington, interim Rice Police Chief, told the Daily Sun that his office is working with the FBI in the investigation. He said that the FBI was the primary agency involved in the case.

Ellington said he was not able to provide any further information about the on-going investigation or the amount of money involved.

Calls to the FBI and the president of the First State Bank of Rice were not returned Wednesday afternoon.
