The Corsicana Civil Service Commission officially accepted the resignation of Jeff Schafer in a meeting on Wednesday.
Schafer, 42, formally served his notice of intent to retire from the city after 20 years of service at the beginning of February, saying he wanted to pursue a career in teaching and coaching.
Jon Ketcham, who has previously served as interim civil service director and is presently chairman of the civil service commission, was approved by the commission to become acting director until a replacement can be found.
Schafer worked for the Corsicana Police Department for eighteen years, working as a patrol officer, a mounted officer and with the Neighborhood Policing Unit before finishing his career as a detective.
He left the Police Department in 2008 and took up the position of Human Resources Director with the city, although he remained as a reserve police officer until the date of his retirement.
Schafer officially left his positions as human resources director and appointed civil service director with the City of Corsicana on February 28.
Ketcham said that there were no immediate candidates to replace Schafer.
