Pursuit ends outside city limits

By AJ Narasimhan

Navarro County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wiley pursued a red 1980s model Pontiac Firebird through the western portion of the county on State Highway 31 through 9 p.m. Thursday, according to dispatch calls.

Wiley originally tried to make contact with the vehicle, which had one unknown male and one unknown female inside, around 8:40 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop and the pursuit lasted for more than 30 minutes, encompassing a large portion of the county.

Tire spikes were utilized near Silver City, but still the vehicle did not stop and traveled up to 65 miles per hour on the rim of the vehicle.

Ultimately, deputies used tactical maneuvers and halted the vehicle on Highway 31 just outside the Corsicana city limits in front of the TxDOT office.

Several calls from Wiley indicated that the driver of the vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the road and deputies scrambled to block off portions of the highway to other cars.

Lanes of traffic came to a halt around 9:30 p.m. as the two unknown suspects were arrested. Around 10 p.m., lanes of traffic reopened to the public and the wreckage of the vehicle was removed.

The driver of the vehicle did not have any warrants, but was driving the vehicle without a license, according to dispatch reports.

Navarro County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Mike Cox said the driver’s and passenger’s identity would not be released until Friday morning.

See Saturday’s Daily Sun for complete details of the pursuit.
