May 16

Senior Activity Center, 919 W. Park Ave., will have clogging classes from 7 to 9 p.m. with Helen Griffiths as instructor. Classes are held each Tuesday. For more information, call (903) 654-4980.



Corsicana Independent School District spring band concert will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Corsicana High School auditorium. The concert will feature the bands from Drane Intermediate School, Collins Middle School and Corsicana High School. The public is invited.

Navarro College SBDC will sponsor a seminar on Web development from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. 12th St. Cost of the workshop will be $20. The Corsicana Independent School District will hold a meeting at 2 p.m. at Sam Houston Staff Development Center to discuss federal program services offered within the district to private non-profit schools or home schools with tax ID numbers. In order to be eligible for the services offered, parents and an official from any non-profit private school who wishes to participate in the federal programs must attend the collaborative meeting.



May 18

North Central Texas WorkForce’s Corsicana Center will host a “Workshop Center Orientation” at 10 a.m. and a job search workshop on “Interview Tips” at 10:30 a.m. at its office, 720 N. Beaton St. “Basic Computer Skills” training will be offered at 5:30 p.m. at the center, but seating is limited and you must pre-register for this training. Eureka Crime Watch will hold its annual community picnic at 6:15 p.m. at he Bartosh home, 505 Hidden Oaks Lane. Everyone is invited. Meat, bread and drinks will be furnished as well as plates and eating utensils. Bring a covered dish and/or a dessert with serving utensils and your lawn chairs. Directions: Take U.S. Highway 287 south past The Shores; turn left on the next street (Caddo Trail) at the sales office of Jackson Lake Properties; at the end of Caddo Trail, turn left on Hidden Oaks Lane; first house on the right (gray brick). Come and enjoy a wonderful evening of fellowship and good food.



African-American Community Council will meet at 7 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 1114 E. Sixth Ave., for the community focus group mixer. The AACC was formed as a sounding board for community issues, concerns and ideas to be heard. The council meets at 7 p.m. each third Thursday of the month.



Navarro County Board of Realtors will meet at noon at Napoli’s Italian Restaurant and Bar, 111 E. Collin St. Jim Hale of Orkin Pest Control will sponsor the luncheon. Patti Taylor, Texas Real Estate Political Action Committee chairman, will stage an auction. Pat Fain of Corsicana National Bank & Trust Mortgage Department will be auctioneer. Taylor has requested that members bring an item for yard art, garden tools, decorative items such as bird feeders, bird houses, etc. Make your reservations to the board office no later than May 16.



Navarro County Service Agency Network will meet at noon at Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, 800 N. Main St., Suite C. Lunch will be $3. To make lunch reservations, call (903) 872-2593.



May 18-19

An AARP drivers safety program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Corsicana. Any licensed driver may attend. Cost will be $10 per person, payable to AARP when you arrive for class. The class, taught by Jim Jones, will hold 35 people. This course does not remediate a traffic violation ticket. May 19

May 19-20

Navarro County Relay for Life will be held at Fullerton-Garitty Park, 3201 McKnight Lane, Corsicana. Opening ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. May 19 followed by the survivors walk between 7:15 and 7:30 p.m. CJ and Randy will be the disc jockeys throughout the entire relay. Entertainment will be provided by New Life, Corsicana High School Choir, Hot Drop Soldiers, The Galinda Girls, Randy Treadway and Friends Band, Northside Baptist Orchestra, Cornerstone Baptist Orchestra, and others. Concessions will be available. There will be face painting, relay bracelets, relay tattoos, Miss Relay Pageant (guys only) at 8:30 p.m., Relay Olympics at 11 p.m. and Relay Idol at midnight. United Christian Fellowship will have its annual “Yard Dawg” sale at its new building, 3301 W. Seventh Ave., across from Navarro College. This annual fund-raiser supports UCF projects and programs. The students will give 10 percent of all proceeds to the Navarro County Boys and Girls Club building. Barbecue dinners will also be available benefiting the Gloria LaShawn Gee Scholarship Fund. May 20

American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., invites members and their guests for an evening with Texas Tradition Band from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. No cover charge. Post will open at 2 p.m. For more information, call (903) 874-3938.



Hubbard Rodeo Association will sponsor a trail ride. Riders will meet at Hubbard City Lakes at 9:30 a.m. Cost will be $10 per rider with lunch provided. If you would like to ride, contact trail boss J.C. Foster at (254) 576-2347 by May 17. A current coggins paper is required. The trail ride will be limited to horses only, no wagons.



Chatfield Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual fish fry and dance at the Chatfield-Tupelo Community Center. The meal will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The dance will follow.



Navarro County Farmers Market, located in the Farmers Market pavilion at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Business 45, next to the Daily Sun, will open. It will be open each Saturday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. until sold out. Texas Department of Health, Farmers Market, WIC program vouchers will be accepted on all eligible items. May 21

Hopewell Cemetery Association will have its annual meeting at the cemetery at 11 a.m. with a covered dish lunch afterward. If inclement weather, the meeting will be at the Navarro Fire Station. Dr. Gary Richards, the speaker for the meeting, is a native of Corsicana and an associate professor of English at the University of New Orleans. He routinely teaches in a summer program in Innsbruck, Austria. Richards has family ties to the Navarro area of the county, descending from the Fouty, White, Boyd, Stroder, Beeman, Bressie, Meador and Rankin families, many of which have been in the county since the 1840s. May 22

The Salvation Army is offering the Navarro County community the opportunity to send kids to camp. If you have a child between 7 to 12 years of age and would like to give them the opportunity to attend a week-long summer camp, call The Salvation Army at (903) 874-7131. May 26

Dawson will have a 125th anniversary celebration. There will be a parade, classic car show, Civil War reenactment, live music, street dance, barbecue lunch and vendor booths. The meal will consist of barbecue brisket, beans, potato salad, bread, dessert and tea. Cost will be $10 at the door or $8 in advance, and children’s meal (up to 12 years) will be $5. Pelham will have memorial activities beginning with beautification of graves at Pelham Cemetery from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A program will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Pelham. May 27-29

Hubbard Memorial Day Weekend Trade Days will kick off with a pancake breakfast from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. May 27 at the Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department, followed with a KHBR live remote from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Historic Hubbard High School open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a rodeo at 8 p.m. May 27 at Mooney Holloway Arena and at 2 p.m. May 28 in the arena. May 29 events will include a fried fish meal at the fire station from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a downtown patriotic parade at 11 a.m., and a memorial service at noon at Fairview Cemetery with keynote speaker U.S. Rep. 31 Kings Motorcycle Club of Corsicana will have a drawing at 5 p.m. at the 31 Kings Clubhouse. The Salvation Army will hold a summer day camp for ages 7 to 12 from 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 2 through Aug. 4. The cost will be $30 per child per week with a sliding scale used for families with more than one child attending. Limited spaces available. Corsicana Art League will meet at 6 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center, 919 W. Park Ave. There will be a still life set up for painting. Bring sketch pad and paints. The mural for the visitation room at Child Protective Services is complete. Bring ideas for the next room which will be the nursery. Also, bring any painting you wish to display at Higher Grounds.



June 6

VOICE will offer a TABC seller/server class starting at 10 a.m. at Gander Mountain Lodge. The cost will be $25 per person and registration deadline will be 2 p.m. June 5. A raffle drawing will be held at BHC Grill and Cantina, located at Interstate 45 and State Highway 31 behind Carl White’s Autoplex, with proceeds going to the Corsicana Police Officers Association to be used for Navarro County’s youth alcohol awareness education program. BHC Grill along with Chuck Edward will chances to win an autographed Fender Stratacaster Squire guitar. There will be a full day of fun and live music.
