New Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, 1808 W. 10th Ave., will observe its annual men’s day program May 18. New Cornerstone Men will conduct the entire service at 11 a.m. and also at 3 p.m. Guest church will be Pleasant Olive Baptist Church of Malone. The speaker will be Carl Oliver of Waco, proud pastor of Pleasant Olive. New Cornerstone Men have chosen 2 Corinthians 13:11 as the scripture reading and “Brothers of Peace” will be the theme of the afternoon.

Extending the welcome will be Deacon Jimmy Mathis, and all of the musical selection will be provided by New Cornerstone Male Chorus. Expounding on the theme will be Deacon James Hurd on peace, Deacon Larry Wilson on love, and Deacon Edward Taylor on unity. Deacon Fred Rhymes will serve as master of ceremonies.

Pulpit devotion will be conducted by the Rev. M.L. Green and the Rev. D.L. Barton. Introduction of the speaker will be given by Pastor D.R. Watson. Proclamation of the gospel will be by Pastor Carl Oliver. Minister Corey Crawford serves as the president of New Cornerstone Brotherhood of Christian Men.

The public is invited to come out and be a part of this service as the men of New Cornerstone show up and show out for the Lord.



Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 308 E. 11th Ave., where Erma Young is pastor, will have a leadership summit beginning at 10 a.m. May 24. The mandate for 2008 is “Let God Be God!” from Malachi 3:6-9. Summit pastors and teachers will be Pastor Cassandra Dunbar from Restoration Family Fellowship Church in Waco and Apostle/Pastor A.E. Smith from Straight Way Missionary Baptist Church in Corsicana.

“We are praying that you will sow a seed offering into this summit,” Young said. “Please come expecting God to manifest in spirit and in truth.”



United Methodist Church, 200 Maplewood, Richland, invites you to an organ concert and spaghetti dinner at 3 p.m. May 18 at the church. The event will be a fund-raiser for the youth mission trip to Arkansas in June. Dr. Jan Kreitner-Cain, pastor, will perform a concert on the new organ followed by the dinner, sponsored by the women of the church.

Kreitner-Cain received a bachelor’s degree in music with a concentration in pipe organ from the University of North Texas in June 1970. She studied under Dr. Donald W. Bellah, Texas Wesleyan University; Dr. Charles S. Brown, University of North Texas; and Dr. Emmett Smith, Texas Christian University in graduate organ studies.

As a teenager she served as assistant organist at her home church, Richland Hills United Methodist Church. She was honored to play the organ at her high school graduation in 1961 from the Birdville schools. She began serving in church music after earning her degree in music.

She was minister of music at Carswell Air Force Base in 1975. She served as chapel organist, Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University in 1976-1977. Kreitner-Cain served as choirmaster/organist in area churches including St. Paul Lutheran Church, Denton; St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Hurst; Ferris Heights United Methodist Church, Waxahachie; and First Christian Church, Ennis.

In 1988, Kreitner-Cain was honored to spend a week in England visiting various churches and cathedrals, and either playing or listening to the various pipe organs throughout the country.

United Methodist Church of Richland is a small church trying to do a large task. The church has committed to sending the youth on CTC mission trip to Arkansas. Your prayers, thoughts and gifts are needed. Come share the joy with the United Methodist Church of Richland.



Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church, 717 E. 13th Ave. will present guest speaker Eric P. Hill, N.D., at 11 a.m. May 17. Brown Chapel AME Church in Pelham, where the Rev. Rosa Rea is pastor, invites you to “Friends and Family Day” at 3 p.m. May 31. The speaker will be the Rev. Harmony Baptist Church, 400 E. 12th Ave., where Bishop John Baker is pastor, will hold a special appreciation service for its church pianist, Sister Jewell Gooden, at 8 p.m. May 16. Gooden has been a faithful member since December 1981 and has been a church musician since 1982. You are invited to come and show your support and enjoy the Lord with Harmony Baptist Church.



House of Refuge Church of God in Christ, 413 Farm-to-Market Road 709 East, Dawson, will host a “Money Smart” seminar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 31. Registration will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. The seminar will be held in the church’s Mosely and Sample Fellowship Hall. Instructor will be Bettye Barge-Calhoun. First United Methodist Church, located on the corner of State Highway 14 and Main Street, Wortham, will have its annual fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. May 17. Menu will be fresh catfish and all the trimmings. Cost will be $6 for adults, $3 for children 4 to 12, and free for children under 3.



Johnson Memorial Church of God in Christ, 1700 S. Business 45, where Elder Joseph Johnson Sr. is pastor and Missionary Charlene Johnson is first lady, will have a special day for the youth, honoring their achievements in public school for 2007-2008. Special speaker for the hour at noon May 18 will be Missionary Gwendolyn Washington. She is the first lady of Haynes Memorial COGIC in Mexia, where Elder Charles Washington is pastor. Program coordinator is Sister B. Barge-Calhoun from the education department. Come and be blessed by the word from the anointed woman of God.

Kelly’s Temple Church of God in Christ, 501 N. Third St., will have revival services at 7:30 p.m. May 20-23 with Elder Mack Walker of Houston. You are invited to come and hear this man of God. Life in the Word Bible Church, 1408 N. Beaton St., where Don and Emma Jessie are pastors, will celebrate its sixth church anniversary at 4 p.m. May 25. Special guest will be Apostle Raymond Portley and Total Deliverance Worship Center of Dallas. He attended D. Edwin Johnson Bible Institute of Dallas and Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie. He currently serves as national auxiliary director and first vice president of Full Gospel New Life Association under the presiding prelate Bishop J. Ardis Jones of True Vine Holy Temple in Dallas.



Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County invites you to join in at 8:30 a.m. each Sunday for worship service. The church meets at the Navarro County Exposition Center, 4021 W. State Highway 22. From 3:30 to 5 p.m. each Sunday, the youth meet for an afternoon of fun and fellowship.

Saturday, weather permitting, volunteers are needed to help in the construction of the new arena at the future LSCC location on State Highway 22, one mile west of the expo center. On May 25, the Texas Prairie Band will return to lead LSCC’s music in the morning worship service. The band’s style of music is described as hard-driving bluegrass gospel.

Petty’s Chapel Baptist Church members and Pastor Sonny Buie invite you to their spring revival featuring Brother Joe Schmidt at 6:30 p.m. May 21-23. There will be a youth rally from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 24 with a bounce house, giant slide, obstacle course, popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones. Schmidt has been working with kids, teens and adults across the United States and some foreign countries in camps, day cares, schools, VBS, rallies, conferences, etc. He utilizes music, songs, illusions, object lessons, games and stories. This promises to be a timely and informative presentation. Gaylord and Dorothy Edling, co-moderators, invite everyone to attend the luncheon.
