Hubbard Memorial Day Weekend Trade Days will have a meal at the fire station from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a downtown patriotic Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m., and a memorial service at noon at Fairview Cemetery.
Barry Masonic Lodge will be dark in remembrance of Memorial Day.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Woodland Cemetery gazebo. The theme will be “Gone But Not Forgotten.” Speakers will be veterans Elzie Carroll and James Borkchum, who both served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Soloists will be Billy Elias, Gertrude Richardson and Curtis Sparks. Taps will be played by Les Grayson. Navarro County War Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Navarro County Courthouse. The speaker will be Lowell Thompson. Join in remembering the fallen soldiers from Navarro County. A special tribute will be paid to William O’Brien, who died while serving in Iraq. Donations will be accepted for the memorial that will be erected honoring this young man.

Navarro College SBDC will sponsor a combination workshop on how to get government contracts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. 12th St. Cost of the workshop will be $40. North Central Texas WorkForce’s Corsicana Center will host a “Workshop Center Orientation” at 10 a.m. and a job search workshop on “Resume Preparation” at 10 a.m. at its office, 720 N. Navarro College PAL will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Cook Center on the college campus. All people 60 and above are invited to attend. Bring a covered dish and come meet new friends. Drinks will be provided. Please bring canned goods for the Navarro county Food Pantry. They are low on many staple items such as macaroni and cheese, rice, noodles and cereals. The program for the meeting will be the planetarium show “Dinosaurs Alive.”
Eureka Crime Watch will hold its annual community picnic at 6:15 p.m. on the Eureka United Methodist Church grounds. Everyone is invited. Meat, bread and drinks will be furnished as well as plates and eating utensils. Please bring a covered dish and/or a dessert with serving utensils and your lawn chairs. And don’t forget your insect repellent. Gather up your family and join in for a wonderful evening of fellowship and good food.

Corsicana/Navarro County tire collection day will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Precinct 1 County Barn, located on State Highway 31 and 45th Street, across from Wal-Mart. Bring any and all of your tires (only tires) to the barn. No commercial tire dealers/haulers will be allowed to dispose of tires. The annual Mildred Drama Camp will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. June 2-6 at the Mildred cafetorium. The camp ensures that each student will get 20 full hours of hands-on theatre training during which they will learn a show and perform it at the end of the week. A Corsicana community blood drive with American Red Cross will be held from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Navarro Shriner’s Building, 323 N. Corsicana/Navarro County clean-up day will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Corsicana Regional Landfill on Jester Road off East State Highway 31. Bring your junk and trash to the landfill. This can include: large appliances, furniture, entertainment equipment, agricultural pesticide containers (must be triple rinsed, punctured or crushed), daily household garbage, and brush. No tires will be accepted. You must be a Navarro County resident, and loads must be tarped and firmly secured to trucks and trailers. Assistance will be available to help unload. Volunteers will be available to take items to the landfill for elderly or disabled residents in the Corsicana area. VOICE will offer the Texas Youth Tobacco Awareness Program, a state-approved program for minors charged with attempted purchase, consumption, or possession of tobacco and is designed to the mandates of Texas law. There will be a choice of morning or afternoon sessions — from 9 to 11 a.m. or from 3 to 5 p.m. June 10, 12, 17 or 19. Classes are $80 (cash only) for all sessions. A benefit for Bruce Holman will be held beginning at 5 p.m. at Frost City Park. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, silent and live auction, live music featuring the Kyle Hunt Band and others. Holman, a former resident of Frost and son of William and Linda Meskiman, was severely injured in an accident April 26. He will have many months of physical therapy. You are invited to come support Holman and his family. Also, a bank account has been established for donations at Community National Bank and Trust. Donations may be made to “Frost Volunteer Fire Department for Bruce Holman” at the Frost, Streetman and Fairfield bank locations, or at either of the two Corsicana locations.
