United Way of Navarro County is sponsoring a community needs assessment. If you received a survey in the mail, please fill it out and return it promptly. In addition to the mail-out survey, those clients of the United Way agencies as well as the Health Department, Adapt of Texas, and Corsicana Housing Authority, may complete a survey form. Area Agency on Aging of North Central Texas, Ombudsman Program, needs volunteers interested in advocating for residents in nursing facilities in Navarro County. No previous experience is required, 36 hours of training is provided, it takes only two to three hours per week and the hours are flexible. Ombudsmen (advocates) investigate and work to resolve complaints for or on behalf of the resident and work to educate residents and their families on residents’ rights. Experience Works, a national non-profit organization, provides training and employment services for mature workers 55 and older who have a low income and are in need of a job. For more information, contact Betty Northcott at North Central Texas Workforce Center at (903) 874-8276, Ext. 230.



Donations are being accepted to the Angel Lay, trustee, for Nicholas Cameron Lay Benefit Fund at Bank of America. Nicholas is a 9-year-old boy in Navarro County who has leukodystrophy. Benefits will be for ongoing medical expenses.



MLK Center board conducts a senior citizen program from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month. Senior citizens are invited to come and be a part. The seniors do chair exercises, play games and make gifts for special occasions or events throughout the year.
