Police seek robbery suspects

Store robbed by man with knife; two attempt carjacking

By Loyd Cook

Police are looking for help finding suspects connected with an attempted carjacking and a separate incident of robbery.

On Monday, two men attempted to steal a car from a woman placing her groceries inside the vehicle on the H-E-B parking lot. And Friday afternoon, a lone man robbed Planet Video at knifepoint.

Sgt. Darrell Waller of the Corsicana Police Department had some strong opinions about the type of person involved in this kind of crime.

“These are a bunch of gutless cowards,” Waller said. “They prey on people who they perceive to be the weakest possible target.”

“Be aware of your surroundings and pay attention at all times,” he added.

The Monday carjacking attempt had police sweeping the area around the H-E-B grocery store.

It occurred about 8:40 p.m. when a woman was leaving the store and observed two black males standing by her car. When she placed her groceries inside her vehicle, one of the men approached her from the back, pushing her to the ground.

“He told her he’d shoot her if she tried to get up,” Waller said. The woman did regain her feet, running through the parking lot while screaming for help, the sergeant said.

The two men fled the scene, but not before snatching the keys to the car and the woman’s billfold. Taking those items, coupled with the threat to the woman, has police looking to charge the duo with aggravated robbery, a first degree felony.

The pair ran east on Sixth Avenue, then were last seen on South 12th Street.

One was reportedly wearing a black or blue T-shirt while the other was wearing a white T-shirt. Both are described as being in their late teens to early 20s, according to police.

Friday’s robbery of Planet Video on East Second Avenue, Detective Greg Cloud said, has video of the incident.

In the tape taken from the store’s security system, a man entered the store and demanded money from the clerk at knifepoint. After getting the money, he left the scene.

Cloud said the suspect is described as a black male, six feet one inch to six feet three inches tall. He is believed to be either cross-eyed or lazy-eyed, the detective said, with bad dental work and a gold tooth.

“Anyone with any information on either of these robberies can contact me at (903) 654-4911 or they can contact Crime Stoppers,” Waller said.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000 for any information that leads to an arrest and grand jury indictment in this crime or any other felony crime. Any one with information should call Crime Stoppers at 874-TIPS (8477).

You do not have to give your name.
